Connaught Place has a new hangout place. Café OMG, the latest venture by Umang Tiwari goes crazy with experimentation with the quirky food and drinks. Ideal to beat the summer heat with the fashionable and edible drinks enjoyed in ‘heaven’. Upon climbing the stairs leading up to the place, one is greeted by an angel. The huge place has great ambience and décor dominated by golden hues with red seating and ceiling adorned with cotton clouds. The second floor of the restro lounge with the ‘hell’ concept is under construction and will be opening soon. Also, the theme left us wondering what surprises ‘hell’ has to offer.

Soon the drinks started arriving. We were truly impressed with the innovation and twist in each drink that was provided. Adam’s Apple and Forbidden Fruit won our hearts with their amazing and stylistic presentation. The cocktails came in a frozen sugar shell which needs to be broken by the small hammer which comes along with it. Upon breaking the sugar shell, the flavours seep down into the larger bowl containing vodka or tequila and other liquors (for the other drinks based on the same concept). All the flavours mix together resulting in a great drink.

Passion Fruit drink came with an edible flower. The Beetle Nut Madira drink was refreshing and gave the impression of gulping down ‘pan’. The bubbling champagne completed our boozy affair.

Our food journey began with delicious starters like Veg Phyllo Spring Rolls; very crunchy accompanied with a suitable dip and sesame seeds on top. The melt in the mouth Mushroom Galauti kebabs was accompanied with mint chutney and small rounded chapattis.

Then came Achaari Vada Pav with Lasuni Chutney. It had an ‘achary’ (pickle) twist. The Peach and Jalapeno dimsums served with spicy soy sauce needs a special mention. Much experimentation and innovation has resulted in this awesome dish, something which is unheard of. I liked the flavor and being a spice lover, the dish suited me well. Chicken and Mini Falafel disks were good too. The service was relaxed but this fact can be ignored because the crowd was huge and the venture is newly launched.

The mains featured a Smorgasbord with clear distinction between the vegetarian and non- vegetaraian dishes. We tried our hands on Kathal aur moti ka pulao with burani raita, it was high on flavors and taste. Others were Alfredo Penne Pasta and Cherry Tomatoes and Fresh Basil Penne Pasta. The creaminess of the sauces was perfect. Southern Fried Chicken is highly recommended. Succulent with perfect spices but the rosemary potatoes served with it was a redundancy. The Daal Makhani and Hakka Noodles weren’t a letdown either.

The droolworthy desserts featured Choco Lava Cake, Melon ki Thandi Kheer and Lemon Posset. The Choco Lava Cake was a delight to the eyes as well as the taste buds with the melted chococlate oozing out of it. Melon Kheer was refreshing and was balanced on the sweetness.

The place surely feels mystical. I am definitely going back again to try the other variants the place has to offer and check out ‘Hell’.
