America’s third largest fast food joint, Wendy’s is set to open its account in India from Sector 29, Gurgaon, on May 6 with a menu that might just change the way we relate to burgers. Now India has been at the heart of a multi-billion dollar expansion in the fast food industry with many of America’s largest chains now looking to open their outlets in India. But will Wendy’s get lost in the crowd? With the Indian public having an overdose of McDonald’s and KFC, along with the recent debacle of Burger King, it’s a market out there for Wendy’s to capture.

Their first outlet impresses with a quick service restaurant style where Coke Studio plays on the jukebox and food gets served on your table in Bone China.

But it’s their menu that hits the nail on the head. A huge selection of vegetarian offerings line up along with their non-vegetarian classics. A delightfully soft chilli brioche bun, that too square in shape is used for all burgers and melts. Let alone the taste of the patty, you can just lock onto the taste of the bun with its inherent spice mix and a splash of turmeric. The French fries comes with skins and are drizzled with rock salt.

My favourite, surprisingly for a hardcore carnivore, was the Spicy Aloo Crunch(INR 59). Baby potatoes smashed together in their skins and spiked with their omnipresent Bhoot Jholakia. Although the name does arouse some fears but the chillies are offset with mayo.

The Double Baconator(INR 279),is the go to burger for the hardcore Carnivores. The patties retain their juiciness for a good stretch of time, with the crispiness of the bacon, the creamy cheesy mix and zing from the jalapenos causing an explosion on your palate.

The Greek Mutton Burger(INR 189) with its grilled mutton patty, succulent and juicy, topped up by a dollop of refreshing tzatziki sauce bursting with mint flavours, gently tickles your palate. It’sa burger that shows that Wendy’s likes to do things differently. You get the same feeling as you dig into the Ultimate Paneer Burger(INR 139). A mammoth slice of paneer enveloped in a spicy mix and the chilli brioche buns.

More for the potato lovers is the Bacon and Cheese Fries(INR 89). Crispy fried potato with skins drizzled with rock salt, a lovely covering of cheese and mustard, alongwith dainty pieces of crispy bacon is a must have for first timers.

For the fitness freaks, the Chili and the salads hold promise. The Chili(INR 59) packs in a staggeringly high load of protein with kidney beans and pieces of chicken in it. Wendy’s is probably one of the first Indian fast food joints that serves up a delectable salad. The delectably made Chicken Ranch salad(INR 159) impresses with a huge bowl of happiness.

Accompany your meals with either the variant of the soft drinks, the Vanilla Cola(INR89) or Watermelon Cooler or a Arrabiata bean coffee(INR 79-119) or a decadently made Banana and Caramel Frosty(INR 79).

Wendy’s superb menu along with some competitive pricing may just see them blowing their competition away in the next few months to come.
