We all have experienced the extreme change in food scenario at GTB Nagar and near by North Campus area. The loyal patrons of Tom Uncle’s Maggi and Chache di hatti are now heading to the ever buzzing cafes of GTB nagar. The reason behind it is obviously the wide variety of lip smacking meal these establishments are churning out at very reasonable rates. So, we do have something for everyone. The latest addition to the list is this cosy and chic cafe called The Phone booth Cafe. The place reminds you of a street cafe in London, with a large red phone booth at the entrance and the Iron Lamp post grabs your attention as you as you enter the property. Brainchild of Mr Manik Chawla and Mr Alok Bagga this place is designed to provide the feel of casual street life of London in our very own North Delhi.

We started with Nacho Salsa Chaat and Mr Manik suggested us to try their signature Red Velvet Shake and Blue Berry Shake. The Nacho Chaat was quite differently made and was not too messy. The use of cheese was minimised and which made it more crunchy. The Blue berry shake was divine. It was filling and had a great sweet and acidic taste of berries in it. The Red Velvet Shake on other hand stood out to be the star of the day for us. Perfect balance of sweetness, alluring presentation and soothing taste. Following it was the Paneer Tikka. There is nothing much you can do to explore the flavours in a paneer dish. But, here the marination of curd, spices and herbs gave it a perfect balance and smokey aftertaste.image

Their Signature pizza Dragon’s Kiss Pizza is a wise attempt with fusion food. The pizza had a really thin, crispy crust, and was topped with assorted bell peppers, jalapenos, chillies, pickled onions, chili chicken and the pizza sauce also had a touch of Sichuan peppercorns giving it fiery flavours. Pasta in pesto sauce was well cooked and had all the indigenous flavors of an Italian dish. Main highlight of our meal was Hummus done three ways served with fluffy pita bread and crunchy falafels. The three flavours included Traditional, Basil and Sun dried tomatoes and it is quite a task to choose the best among them. We ended our meal on a sweet note with the dessert of the day which was Oreo Cheesecake.

In a nutshell, this vibrant cafe is indeed quite promising. The mantra is the consistency in their food which lot of joints in GTB Nagar fails to provide. We highly recommend this place to you.
