Two years ago, a trip to Bangalore was incomplete without paying a visit to Monkey Bar. Monkey Bar was introduced to Delhi in 2014, it received a gala reception from Delhiites. Tucked away in a corner of Vasant Kunj, Monkey Bar has all the quirkiness you need to nurture ridiculous thoughts while digging into a monsoon menu of indulgent proportions. Talking about the place it is large and split across two floors, the place houses a host of seating options. There are some tables by the windows, a huge table bordered by single chairs along with some sofas. There is a pool table, foosball, and an extensive menu of drinks and haute bar food. The staff is friendly, efficient and patient.image

Monsoon Bites at Monkey Bar

The Passionate Monk

The menu is mouth watering and handiwork of one of the finest chefs Manu Chandra. His influence ensures that the non-veg fare has more to it than just chicken. One can actually count chicken dishes on finger tips and be tempted to try beef, pork, fish and lamb specialities dished out. We were invited here to try out their “monsoon menu”. We started with Prawn Kachori, which was indeed a delight to the tastebuds. One can never imagine a combination of Kachori and Prawns but at Monkey Bar you get the right one. Moving ahead, we tried the Chettinad chicken Samosa. Fiery chettinad chicken is stuffed in crispy samosa and served with Tamarind and Mint sauce. Poutine is a dish originated from Canada and is comprising of potato wedges, french fries, brown gravy and cheese. The bacon, sausages and caramelized onions making it an ideal meal and highlight of the day for us.

Churros

Next, on my plate was the crispy chicken pakora. Every bite of the dish entices your palate. Washed down the finger licking food with their signature cocktail “The Passionate Monk”. It had a generous quantity of Old monk mixed with passion fruit, orange juice and sweet n sour mix. Old Monk was acting as a perfect base but not over-powering the other flavours. Another, Old Monk favourite for us being “An apple a day”. Which also consisted of apple, Kiwi crush, sweet and sour mix with soda. Deep fried dumplings being a star of the day. Crispy dumplings which had juicy minced chicken, an array of flavours and served with variety of dips. End your meal on a sweet note with sinful, crispy churros with chocolate dip. Rolled in cinnamon and sugar powder, the churros here were decent and light (a little too light and airy for my liking).
