White Rhino Brewing Company is carving a niche for itself by offering craft beers that match up to international standards; that too without creating budget woes. While commercial brands have a set formula, craft beers are all about experimentation and quality. It can be a regular flavoured one. But what makes it stand out is the immense care taken in sourcing ingredients and the processes to maintain freshness. Craft Beer is beer made by educated and experienced brewers who are inspired and dedicated to consistently making beer that is unique, great tasting and worth your time and money.
While Delhi and NCR readies itself for the two variants- Munich lager and Belgian witbier, other cities will have to wait for a while. White Rhino, the brainchild of Ishaan Puri, is based in Gwalior. Setting up a base near the city will help in catering to the needs of the niche audience. Mr. Puri is a brewer himself and has roped in experts from the brewing industry to give India its first craft beer. He noticed the great potential in home markets and putting his passion into practice started working on the White Rhino Brewing Company. White Rhino has sourced equipment, ingredients and personnel from far flung corners of the globe.
Delhi was lagging behind in terms of its own craft breweries, therefore the idea of setting up a domestic brewery came about. While other breweries supply beer to restaurants in kegs, White Rhino also has a dedicated bottling unit to supply beer in both ways.
ABOUT THE WIT AND LAGER
Bunta Bar witnessed the exclusive tasting of the two beer variants along with a special menu. Belgian style witbier follows the Belgian brewing process but with local ingredients. Indian rolled wheat is brewed with orange peel and coriander with magnum hops which makes it aromatic and refreshing. The lager is the simpler one but with a slightly bitter taste profile and has more hops than the wit. Matured to perfection for over a month, it has just the right amount of traditional German hops (Hallertauer, Mittelfrüh & Tettnanger) to make this a truly authentic beer and goes well with any kind of cuisine.
Non beer drinkers can start with the ‘witbiers’ and then move on to lagers. Beer and food pairing is all the rage now and both similar and different profiles work well. Craft beers are all about new styles and a few other variants are in the pipeline.
The home beer market is up for an exciting time as more and more craft breweries open up. Meanwhile India’s first bottled craft beer promises us “No More Bland Beer’.
