Ale, lager or stout, beer is a companion to many. Its luscious golden texture that dissolves on your tongue and makes everything joyful. Since the team behind Gurugram Beer Week is aware of our love towards this brewed concoction. They decided to conduct a beer masterclass at one of the finest and authentic Bavarian Microbrewery “Seven Degrees Brauhaus”.

Craft Beers in India have gradually taken over the bottled beer craze with a promise of fresh brewed beers with innovative flavours and inspiring techniques. Another thing it involves is a lot of science and furthermore an interesting process of making such fine craft beers. Mr. John J. Eapen, Founder – Tales of froth and craft beer expert, Mr. Archit Singhal, founder – Gurugram Beer week, Celebrity Brew Master Mr. Ishan Grover and Home Brewer Mr. Thean Leonard Kruger. Together they conducted a  beer masterclass which were specific to different types of beer such as barley, wheat, corn, rice and rye.

The  session commenced with an informal interaction with Mr. Archit Singhl, founder of Gurugram Beer Week. He elaborated to us the whole concept behind the Beer week and how Master classes, beer crawl and beer tasting sessions were some of the fun activities that kept visitors here busy. Further, Mr. Thean Kruger described about his experience of being a part of the beer week. He says, “The amount of knowledge that’s lacking both in the general populace as well as in the people who are serving beer is atrocious. Something like this needs to be organised on a regular basis to create awareness among people. The only way out therefore to tackle this lack of awareness issue is education.”

Mr. Eapen started the session with an introduction and an ice breaking session. In addition it was followed by a small presentation. It is with the basics of what craft brews are all about and the ingredients used in making that fresh cold mug of beer which we diligently indulge in every time we head out for a pint or two. They further enlightened us about how the craft brewing scenario has almost hotted up in India. John also spoke about Bangalore’s success in this area with both the quality of brews and the number of craft breweries that are thriving in the tech city.image

This was followed by a Q&A session which was conducted by Mr. Eapen, Mr. Grover and Mr. Kruger. The session brought together lots of questions about how to identify aromas, discover the right brew for one’s palate, and about how the craft brewery arena in India is set to grow further over the next few years. Finally the session concluded with a brewery tour conduct by Mr. Sagar Powale.
In conclusion, cheers to the first ever Gurugram Beer Week and the memorable experiences it brought along.
