The old and narrow lanes of Dilli 6 narrate many stories through the wide variety of lip smacking food that they offer. They’ll inspire you to pull out your cameras and capture these photogenic dishes. These congested narrow lanes where rickshaw pullers, mosque goers and vendors collide to create stories of their own. The historic and symbolic heart of the city, Old Delhi has street stalls and sweets shops dating back 200 years. Cafe on 3, the multi cuisine all day dining restaurant brings you delicious dishes from Purani Dilli only at Holiday Inn New Delhi Mayur Vihar Noida till 21st August. The festival will transform the restaurant into a food haven of the walled city of Delhi with authentic flavours of Purani Dilli, especially the lanes directly in front of the Jama Masjid. Team Salt and Sandals presents a list of six dishes that holds the essence of Old Delhi and turned out to be the highlight of our meal at Old Delhi Festival at Holiday Inn New Delhi Mayur Vihar Noida.
Bhalla Paapdi Chat: We start off with a plate of Bhalla Paapdi Chaat. With the masala having the exact flavours of Old Delhi, this concoction of the freshly squeezed Bhalla along with the crispy Paapdi. Slathered up with some fresh curd and a plethora of chutneys, this chaat will transpost you to the lanes of Chandni Chowk.
Kebabs: Let’s get down to the meaty business now. With BabuBhai’s Dori ke Kebab and Boti Ke Kebab on offer, the succulent meat in the simple seasoning just dissolves on your palate. Take some of the mint chutney with the onions to accentuate your experience even more.
Aslam’s Butter Chicken: Do not be thrown off by the name. This is not your typical Punjabi Butter Chicken. This is actually more of a Chicken Tikka which has been doused in butter and yoghurt. The creamy flavours with the curry is one of the must-have dishes that you must try. Do polish it off with some fluffy Khameeri Roti.
Mutton Korma: The decadently soft pieces of mutton cooked in a plethora of traditional spices. The thick gravy is very healthy for you.
Biryani: A Biryani which is very different from the ones you find in Awadh and Hyderabad. Made from Golden Sela instead of Basmati, this Biryani bases itself more on aromatics rather than a huge amount of spices. As Executive Chef Tanmoy Majumder tells me, the flavours are quite similar to those of the Bengali Biryani.
Desserts: Warm Gulaab Jamun, mashed up Shahi Tukda and the silky smooth Kesar Phirni. Take your pick.
The festival is priced at INR 1750++ at the dinner buffet of Cafe on 3 at Holiday Inn New Delhi Mayur Vihar Noida. Do let us know about your favourites.
