Recently I got an invite to Shangri La for Aqua Aerobics and I was really excited for the same. I had read and heard a lot about Aqua Aerobics, so was really looking forward to it! I reached at Shangri La by 6:15, the session starts at 6:30. I had the beautiful opportunity of speaking to Kiran (our trainer) in depth about Aqua Aerobics.
Me- Do we really you end up burning 800 calories in a session?
Kiran- A one-hour session of Aqua Aerobics can help burn up to 850 calories since water resistance increases the intensity of the exercise. The technical explanation for this is that since water is 12-14 times thicker than air, the movements carried on in water create a greater impact on the body.
Me- Oh fabulous, What do we have in store today?
Kiran- The session starts with basic walking on the pool floor followed by cardio and core strengthening exercises. The exercises looks really simple but under water they are quiet difficult.
Me- Why aqua aerobics and not any other form of exercise?
Kiran- Aqua Aerobics offers multiple health benefits for any fitness level and helps in increasing the overall physical fitness, it helps in weight reduction and toning up the body. Additionally, Aqua Aerobics also ensures that the joints and the cardiovascular system are protected during the exercise (as you are inside water).
Me- So who all should actually do this?
Kiran- As opposed to other workout routines, Aqua Aerobics is a fun activity, which can be enjoyed by all age groups. Only pregnant women and if you have some joint pains then you should avoid this.
After a small chat with her, my session began. The good thing was-it was a small group, so Kiran was giving individual attention to all. The exercises were really simple but under water doing them-made them super duper tough. Try walking in water or try standing on one foot (while your partner pushes you :p).
I was quiet exhausted after the workout, simple exercises had left pain in my overall body. We were served some delicious snacks by “Tamra” which were much needed after the tedious workout. Overall loved the session and shall be coming back super soon!
