May 04, 2016 witnessed ‘Ultimate Bartender Championship’ – an innovative international competition that refocuses the art of bartending by challenging competitors to demonstrate their knowledge and service rather than just their flare. The main sponsor of the evening were Monkey Shoulder, the first triple malt Scotch whisky, a combination of three Speyside single malts launched in country last year. Dean Callan, Monkey Shoulder’s Global Brand Ambassador and one of the most innovative professionals in the business, conducted the Championship in New Delhi recently.
Bartender Roger Gomes from Ek Bar, Delhi and Chong Sherpa from PCO, Delhi won the National Finale. They have won a trip to Camp Monkey, the annual international bartenders’ offsite by Monkey Shoulder; which will be held in Greece in August this year. The highlight of the evening was when the bartenders were supposed to make 8 cocktails in minimum time possible. Seeing all the bartenders compete and serve the perfect cocktails in mere few minutes was quiet an adrenaline rush.
The evening was followed by some fabulous cocktails using Monkey Shoulder and finger food by Monkey Bar. The Indian leg of the Ultimate Bartender Championship started earlier this month across Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, and Chandigarh witnessed participation from over 80 bartenders from leading outlets. Bartenders from India’s most popular bars & restaurants made it to the finals in New Delhi after going through different rounds that tested their technique, insight, knowledge, speed and skill behind the bar and competency in every attribute required to become a top bartender.
Overall a fabulous evening spent with some jaw-dropping performances by the bartenders. Absolutely loved the energy and the adrenaline rush.
