Junglee Billee located in GK 1, M Block Market is a throwback to the evolution of Bombay to Mumbai. Nida Mahmood does the interiors which is a distinct mix of Victorian and Iranian. The menu created by Chef Sabyasachi Gorai ranges from the slums near Sion to the posh upmarket Colaba with an adequate representation to the Gujaratis, Parsis, Muslims and Kolis.

Long Read (For those who read at their leisure)

A slice of the Mumbaiyaa fanfare in Delhi. This is what signifies Junglee Billee in it’s truest sense. Designed with all the kitsch of Nida Mahmood, Junglee Billee is a reprise of the melting potpourri of cultures that Bombay used to be. There are typical Victorian type seatings with some Irani influences. The food is representative of the Parsi community settled there along with the fisherman from the Konkani coastline and the Muslim community too.

The drinks menu includes a list of beautiful concoctions. Two drinks that impress us with their sweet taste are The Golden Blonde and the Paan Mojito.

We list down five reasons why you should visit Junglee Billee when you’re missing the hustle bustle of Mumbai:

  1. Md. Ali Chicken Boti Kebab: This was where Dawood Ibrahim started his kingdom from. The juicy succulent chicken kebab is resplendent with spices and lush, vibrant flavours.
  2. Bhaijaan Seekh Parantha: Located just outside the Bandra West station, a small shop sells Seekh Kebab rolled out in Paranthas. Our Bhaijaan’s, Salman Khan’s favourite, this kebab has perfect blend of melt in your mouth meat with a smash of spices on your palate.IMG_20160123_141013885
  3. Iranian Berry Pulao: Popularised by Soda Bottle Opener Wala, this iconic Iranian dish has found many takers in the Northern part of the country. With well cooked mutton and aromatic long grained rice along with the sweet and acidity from the berries.
  4. Bombay Mawa Cheesecake: Another cheesecake in our list. This one is filled with decadent sweetness to offset your tastebuds after the splash of spice. The berry coulis provides a beautiful acidity to counter the sweetness of the cheesecake.IMG_20160123_153411259
  5. Chef Sabyasachi Gorai’s menu along with Nida Mahmood’s design are something you would come back to this place for. The place also boasts of not allowing entry of stag males making it a perfect place for you to hang around with your gang of girls.
