Delhi’s coolest food festival is back and we fell in love with it again. One of the rare food festivals which makes a family outing fun. The popular Sauce brand Veeba continued as the presenting sponsor of the Asian Hawkers Market. It is Delhi-NCR’s only public food festival dedicated to Chinese, Japanese and South-East Asian cuisines. From October 21 to 23, the Select Citywalk Saket was abuzz with colours and flavours of the East. More than 30 multi-award-winning restaurants along with Priyank Sukhija’s popular Bar Lord of the Drinks were present at the festival. The food festival’s other organisers, apart from ace food critic Sourish Bhattacharyya and Atul Sikand are: Siddharth ‘Sid’ Mathur, Director and Head of Food at Riyaaz Amlani’s phenomenally successful Social and Food Consultant to My Square, Select Citywalk’s immensely popular food court; and Chef Tanveer Kwatra.
Highlighting the festival’s format, Sikand noted: “With a focus on small plates, our intention is for visitors to try as many different menus across restaurants that they might not otherwise have had a chance to visit.” Chef Tanveer further emphasized the uniqueness of the concept: “We have some great restaurants associated with us that I’m sure all of us know about. This is also an opportunity for the participating restaurants to showcase their signature dishes to a new audience and experiment with new menus.”
We tell you about the best dishes that we tried out.
PaPaYa
Zorawar Kalra is now one of the judges on MasterChef India but his Asian bistro PaPaYa continues to rule the hearts in Mumbai. We Delhiites get very little to taste their charms, but Asian Hawkers Market makes it possible for us. With a new chef at the helm in the form of Sahil Singh, the PaPaYa Dog is an explosion of flavour. With duck marinated with Hoisin sauce, the combination of salt, sweet and sour flavours tango on your palate.
Latest Recipe, Le Meridien Gurgaon
Although the exit of Executive Chef Tanveer Kwatra has happened, but new Executive Chef Suprabhath Rouchowdhury takes the food even a notches higher. The Japanese pancake Okonomiyaki still exudes it’s whole plethora of flavours.
Woktok, The Grand New Delhi
With Chef Nilesh Dey at the helm, Woktok’s Chinese food is scaling new heights everyday. The Cumin Lamb gives you an earthy twist to the flavours. A clean break away from all the sour and sweet flavours of Pan Asia.
The Bombaykery
The surprise package of the lot. The desserts at Bombaykery blew our mind away. The Lemon Tart with it’s eye squinching tartiness and the Nutella cupcake that gives you orgasms. They also have a Belgian dark chocolate pastry to die for.
The Asian Hawkers Market showcases the best of Delhi NCR’s Pan Asian food,. The next one will be held in February 2017. If you are in Delhi at that point of time, do check it out.
