Cocktails are a delicious but potentially expensive commodity and for those with a penchant for this particular treat it might be worth booking into some classes to recreate the classics at home. In an endeavor to create a memorable experiences for patrons, The Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi hosted a fun cocktail making master class at Rick’s, the city’s famed urban lounge Bar. Guests learnt how to shake and mix a host of cocktails including Rhum Punch, Rick’s Collins, Espresso Martini, Whiskey Sour and Fruitalicious.
The event started with an interaction with their master mixologists. He elaborated on how the Spirit, Sugar and Bitters are the key ingredients that make up the cocktail. But bartenders the world over have naturally added their own personality and twists for our drinking pleasure. Further, they kicked off with this an enlightening session. It combined of some of the classic cocktails and even the signature cocktails that are being churned by the mixologists at Rick’s – Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi.
Cocktail Recipes and Pairing with food
Guava Berry Martini
Vodka : 60 ml
Cranberry juice : 10 ml
Guava juice : 15 ml
Elderflower syrup : 05 ml
Lime juice : 10 ml
Blueberry puree : 15 ml
Method – Shaken and strained in a chilled Martini glass, garnished with the flower of the day. The drink is fruity and has a fruity aftertaste. It is best paired with Scottish Smoked Salmon, Tobiko caviar.
Whiskey sour
Jack Daniel : 60 ml
Lime juice : 15 ml
Sugar syrup : 10 ml
Angostura bitter : 3 dashes
Egg white : 30 ml.
Method – Dry shake( without ice) all the ingredients in a shaker for around 15 – 20 seconds, and then shake with ice till the time the drink is sufficiently chilled,and then pour the cocktail over ice in a old fashioned glass, garnished with an orange slice.
Paired with – Wok tossed duck and scallion spring rolls.
The whiskey sour isn’t fancy, but it’s loyal. It’s an easygoing drink. The egg white creates froth and body for a drink.
Vodka : 45 ml
Kahlua : 15 ml
Espresso Shot : 1 single
Sugar syrup : 05 ml
Making – Shaken and strained in a chilled Martini glass, garnished with the three coffee beans.
Paired with – Onion and mushroom marmalade Spanakopita.
Next time you wake up and are trying to decide between hard liquor and a cup of coffee, maybe this recipe can end the argument between the voices in your head.
Fruitalicious
Chardonnay : 100 ml
Vodka : 30 ml
Spicy syrup : 05 ml
Elderflower syrup : 05 ml
Lime juice : 05 ml
Apple/orange/Litchi : 15 ml (Each)
Making – Mix all Ingredients and pour in a chilled Wine Glass.
Paired with – Hanoi corn cakes.
Wine and vodka, two great spirits that combine well together can be mixed to create a Fruitalicious. The drink is paired with Hanoi corn cakes. Apple, Orange and Litchi juice adds to the sweetness, while lime juice gives it a tangy touch.
Rhum Punch
Captain Morgan : 30 ml
Bacardi : 30 ml
Guava juice : 15 ml
Pineapple juice : 30 ml
Lime juice : 15 ml(Fresh cut lemon)
Angostura bitter : 2 Dashes
Making – Pour spiced rum topped up with ice, lime juice and bitters mix all fresh juices.
This turned out to be the main highlight of the evening for us. A combination of white rum and dark rum. The drink is all what a perfect balance of flavours. Pineapple juice provides it with sweetness. Acidic flavour is due to the lime juice in it. The drink surely leaves a long lasting taste. It is best paired with Charcoal cooked queen olive chicken morsels.
Rick’s Collins
Blavod : 60 ml
Ginger syrup : 10 ml
Homemade Wine vinegar : 4 dashes
Sweet and sour mix : 10 ml
Wheat beer : Top up
Pour the ingredients in a chilled Beer glass, layered with Beer and Blavod.
Last but not the least, this is an amazing beer cocktail. It is combined with Blavod, an 80 proof black vodka. Ginger provides it with sourness which leaves an amazing after taste. It is best paired with – Masala Lamb Boti kebab. Let us know which combination do you like the most.
