Newest addition to Satya Niketan, the GTB Nagar of South Delhi, Canteen Till I Die reminds us of school and college canteens and all the memories related to it. Bryan Adams gave us two things. Good songs and an inspiration to name the place. Named after ’18 Till I Die’, this wonderful place celebrates the spirit of youth. The reason for the word ‘canteen’ being used is it is exactly like one. Low prices with a variety of lip smacking food for the broke and those looking for a frugal lunch. It also has the largest kitchen in the lane with neat divisions between the food and drinks sections. Putting an end to month end woes, it is a happy hangout spot for the students of the nearby schools and colleges.
After taking a good look at the highly affordable and innovative menu, we decided to start with the coolers first. Apart from the canteen regulars like juices and drinks, there are many healthier options in the form of slow pressed juices. Antioxidant Supreme which had watermelon, beetroot, grape and orange is an enjoyable drink which is priced at just Rs 125!
Chandni Chowk to China is an effort to renovate the traditional bhel by adding crispy noodles and veggies. The resultant fusion dish is something which everyone would instantly love.
Next up we had the Chocolate and Mango smoothie shots. Other variants are strawberry, pineapple and vanilla. Perfect for in- between- meals, these are happiness served in cute little glass jars.
Makhani- Desi Tadka pasta was pasta with a desi twist. The chicken variant is a must try. Spicy BBQ Chicken Pizza was loaded with chicken and was flavourful. Canteen Chicken Burger is something irresistible with mint mayo and masala fried chicken patty. Spotting maggi on the menu, we were delighted. The variety here is a little different than which is normally found like Achari Style and Andhra Style. We had the Tadka Punjabi Maggi which was rich and buttery with assorted spices and juicy chicken pieces.
Saving the best for the last, we ended our meal with Ferrero Rocher Shake and Brownie Crumble and Chocolate Ganache with raisins & nuts. The brownie is highly recommended.
