How does Bread and Better work?
It is a pop-up café where once a month, Bread and Better announces a venue (usually their friends home), where you can come by, eat brunch, pick up homemade baked goods and make conversations/network with random people.
What to expect?
Expect comfort food with home baked goodies and chitter-chatter/laughter in background. What worked for me was that it was an informal seating and you could sit anywhere (I was on the floor cross legged). It was a mix crowd with some real sweet aunties talking their hearts out to some biker boys discussing their travel diaries to cute girls chit-chatting. Sadaf & Mansi (brains behind the cafe) believe in welcoming each & everyone, and to my happy delight even pets. Finally a cafe in Delhi which allows pets (yayiee.. God you have been listening), next pop up, I am definitely getting my lil one.
What was served?
The menu is limited but everything is made from scratch by Sadaf and Mansi. Sadaf is in-charge of Spice whereas Mansi is in-charge of Sugar, so Sadaf is mainly in the kitchen cooking whereas Mansi can be seen taking orders and serving everyone with a big broad smile on her face.
The food price is pocket friendly and portion sizes are quiet good. Sadly I was a little late for the event so I just got the opportunity of eating Mediterranean Stuffed peppers and Lemon Buttermilk cake with Citrus Glaze. Both of them tasted really good and I got the happiness I generally get from eating a good home cooked meal.
How did it all begin?
Sadaf always wanted to open a cafe whereas Mansi loved to bake. Both have regular 9-6 jobs and opening a cafe required a huge investment. So they both mutually decided to start a pop-up cafe where they both could show their cooking & baking talent. The biggest challenge they faced was attracting customers. Initially they started within friends and family but we all know you can’t keep a good thing small and with a good word of mouth, now Bread and Better hosts a gathering of 30-35 at each brunch. After every 2 months, they do a pop up, next one is planned in April first week. The menu of each pop up is different from the previous one, so you could never ever get bored with the food. You can follow them here.
All in all, a Sunday afternoon well spent with warm hospitality, good food and fun conversations!
