Barcelos , a new entrant in Hauz Khas Village strives to come up with something new every now and then. Incorporating different cuisines from around the world, it specializes in Portuguese, African and Lebanese food. This lavish place is spread across a huge area and there is a small seating arrangement outside overlooking the busy streets of Hauz Khas Village. The team had gone to try out the sizzlers range and the variety was quite impressive. They had some mouth watering sizzlers from around the world with the option to choose your own sauces depending on how spicy you want the sizzler to be. There are a plethora of sauces to choose from. Tangy lemon, Supa Peri, Veri Peri and Mild Peri (supposedly exported from South Africa) which also served as great accompaniments to the other foods too. Especially going well with the Potato Wedges and French Fries was the Supa Peri sauce. Since the place is inspired by Portugal, one comes across various wall paintings and daily life depictions of Portugal. They have a wall dedicated to all the landmarks. The restaurant has a happy vibe with the choicest music tracks and comfortable interiors for dining with family and friends.
The drinks menu is well classified into Indian Classic Cocktails and Portugese Cocktails. From the former we chose Teekhi Mirchi, Paan-Tini and Kala-Khatta. Teekhi Mirchi and Paan- Tini take you on a flavor trail because mirchi and paan! Both are an integral part of Indian tastes. Among the Portugese, we had Madeira Cobbler– a fine combination of wine with brandy and vermouth. Tipo Tinto, a bubbly drink with raspberry, mango and spiced rum which was absolutely lovable. Portugese in Love (brandy that is punched with pomegranate) was sweet with a jelly like consistency and Doce, a chocolate flavor creamy drink with splash of grenadine is worth giving a try.
Coming to the sizzlers, we had :-
Falafel Sizzler with Hummus had delectable falafels served with generous quantities of mozzarella cheese served with spicy rice and grilled vegetables.
Peri Peri Paneer Sizzler had cottage cheese marinated with mild peri sauce (as per our order) served on a bed of rice along with grilled tomato, broccoli, onion, mushrooms and zucchini. The grilled vegetables gave an extra flavor to the sizzler.
Peri Peri Chicken Sizzler had chicken breasts cut into strips, layered with mozzarella cheese and rolled onto sticks like a ‘chaap’. Cheese and chicken complimented each other really well along with the vegetables and rice.
Chicken Trinchado Sizzler gave us a taste of the flame grilled chicken wherein the chicken pieces are marinated for 24 hours before being grilled. It comes with a thick gravy dip which looked like chicken pickle. This exclusive dip was a clear winner.
Mutton Keema Sizzler was a great combo of nicely done and soft keema marinated with special spices along with spicy rice and grilled vegetables. Chicken Trinchado and Mutton Keema Sizzler are highly recommended. We ended the meal with small scoops of ice cream served on delicious cookies.
The Indian palate is becoming susceptible to globally cultivated tastes and Barcelos gives us exactly that. Walk in for a gastronomical experience and the sizzlers are not worth giving a miss.
