A Bengali without Biryani is incomplete and so am I. But typical of a Bengali, going out for Biryani is a task in itself. So, since the time that Biryani home deliveries have started, I have been a happy fellow. I decided to try out the newly opened The Biryani Project and came away quite a bit happy with their results.

What is the Biryani Project?

The Biryani project is a result of 2 years of research into different regions across India where TBP team delved deeper to understand how the royal cuisine embraced flavors from different regions imparting its own uniqueness and variety to the cuisine called biryani. TBP is a mission towards educating consumers about the diverse regional variations of biryani found across India by bringing to your doorstep the taste of freshly handcrafted gourmet biryani.

Biryanis we tried out from The Biryani Project

The first Briyani that I tried out from their arsenal was the Awadhi Biryani which comes from Lucknow. This Biryani is characterised with a plethora of aromatics along with a hint of saffron. The one from the Biryani Project stays true to it’s name with a long grained rice mixed up with mutton that has been cooked so succulently that it nearly falls off the bone.

Although the first one establishes the true stature of The Biryani Project, it’s the second Biryani that literally blows me away. The Godavari Biryani has been made with Chicken and cooked with a plethora of Southern spices including curry leaves that gives it a typical flavour. But it’s not just the Biryanis that impress at The Biryani Project but the Raita they send along with them. Curated specifically to mix and match with the flavours of the Biryani, the one served with the Godavari Biryani has curry leaves, mustard seeds and red chilli to make for some delightful flavours.

The Biryani Project also has a host of Hyderabadi Biryanis in it’s armoury with a vegetarian option also available and plans are on to introduce a Bohri Biryani from Mumbai as well. So if you’re feeling the hunger pangs in the night or lusting for a Biryani, go on and order yourself one from The Biryani Project.
