I moved to Mumbai recently, from Gurgaon. Among many other things from the city that I spent 6 yrs in, I was surely missing the Parle-G cheesecake, the chicken tikka masala, the raj kachoris and the music from Farzi cafe, Cyber Hub. So, when I heard that Farzi is on its way to Mumbai I could hardly contain myself.

A late lunch on a weekend seemed best for a leisurely time at this treasure box of food. The place is fantastic, much more spacious, and way better (at least as per my aesthetic sense) than their other outlets so far. The rustic Rajasthani jali work all around, high ceilings and 3D effects create an imposing ambiance. Good music, good crowd, spacious seating areas and the expectations of an incredible gourmet trip sets you up for the best.

After their mishti doi spheres with berry sauce as amuse-bouche, first up were the cocktails, Farzi Apple Foamatini, Farzi Tina, 3 Musketeers, and My Girlfriend. The last one was amusing. Served in a female figurine glass, rum infused with watermelon juice and probably coconut water, it made for a beautiful summer drink. For starters we had the popular raj kachori (from Delhi days), the famed dal chawal arancini, tempura fried prawns, goat cheese stuffed tangdi kabab, and Delhi belly (pork belly) tikka. A special shout out to the tempura fried prawns for it’s subtle hint of tobasco on the perfect tempura coating. And the pork belly was one of the best quality meat I have tasted in a long time. Raj kachori was delicious, as always, especially with the crispy okra on the side and the tamarind chutney foam.

For main course we had bheja fry appam (unique fusion and good at that), chicken tikka masala (our usual favorite at Farzi) which comes with a side of garlic naan, and a small portion of spaghetti aglio olio, which was super – melt in the mouth, warm, delicious flavors that left us wanting for more. They served a palate cleanser, in between the courses.

Dessert had to be Parle-G cheesecake, what else when at Farzi! It has to be one of the best fusion creations. Cheesecake sandwiched between Parle-G biscuits, served on a bed of creamy rabri, dotted with generous amounts of Gems 😀 The confluence of sour and sweet feels just about perfect. We also tried the rasmalai tres leches (not the very best dessert).

However, above all, their well-groomed team takes the cake away, as they amaze you with their hospitality, smart appearances, well coordinated service and their in-depth knowledge about the menu.

Spend a leisure Sunday afternoon brunching, or an evening out with friends, or choose to celebrate a special day here – the electric atmosphere, the crowd, the location and the food at Farzi Cafe will not cease to surprise you and pamper you!
