I recently set out on a road trip to Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu with Scout My Trip. We traveled over 2500 hundred kilometers and discovered a lot of places to visit in nearly 6 cities. During our road trip, we stayed at OYO Rooms and discovered a whole range of their properties
OYO Townhouse, Green Park, Delhi
This new series of hotels by OYO reminds me of the hostels of Europe. Their sleek, chic design along with an abundance of space and minimalist use of colours makes it one of the best upscale yet affordable hotels I have seen in a long time. A green sitting area with faux grass outside gives it a fresh vibe which was truly visible in the morning. The Townhouse offers for one of the best experiences for a business traveler and the hotel offers you the best of services in that category with the addition of letting you enjoy some movies on Netflix or reading a book on Kindle. The Townhouse also has a cafe where you can satiate your hunger pangs.
OYO Rooms, Kathmandu
Although OYO only exist in another country than India (Malaysia), they have come up with their first property in Kathmandu and this was the reason behind all the shebang. With a facade that shows the OYO name in big bold letters, the hotel is pretty near the German Embassy. As OYO is handling the hotel in its totally, the service is something that will truly look forward to.
One of the first things that I liked most about the property in Kathmandu is the clean and well lit corridors which are such a rarity in budget hotels. The ubiquitous grey doors again makes it’s appearance. My room opens onto the main square of Kathmandu and the roof offers an unbridled view of Kathmandu’s landscape. The room in itself is very cosy and even has a bathtub.
One of the things that sets OYO rooms apart from other budget properties is their standardization. This gives them an edge with better eating options and staff training. The dining room in the hotel allows you the comforts of a Continental meal and also allows you to experiment with a platter of traditional Nepali food. A small bar also graces the dining room without the shadiness of the budget hotels.
OYO Home Stay, Agra
Continuing with the road trip, we hit Agra on our way to Delhi. Here we discovered another very unique feature of OYO, OYO Homes. It is a collection of home stays which are perfect for the long time or the back packing traveler. Our home stay was a stone throw’s away from the Taj Mahal and offers all the homely comforts of a home stay with home cooked food along with clean sheets and running water along with an air conditioner, all at a very affordable price.
