In a dynamic dining out scenario of Delhi where new concepts are blooming and restaurateurs are infusing a lot of innovations in their businesses, here comes a concept which will take you back to the roots of the food culture of the country. Masala Trail by Osama Jalali was recently launched in Janpath replacing Mumbai’s popular food chain Shiv Sagar. The eatery is a tribute to the street foods of various regions from India and it comes from a well known food critic and food consultant Mr. Osama Jalali. A man who was born and brought up in the by lanes of Old Delhi and his ancestral roots in Rampur, a princely estate in U.P. Osama Bhai has spent his childhood amongst khansamas as his mother curates and cooks for the community kitchen. It is there, he developed his passion for food. With his vast knowledge, he has not only contributed to many publications but loves cooking himself and treating people over a chit chat about food and much more.
This restaurant is his joint venture with restaurateur Vidur Kanodia and is all about the traditional Indian street food. The focus is on simplicity in the way the food is cooked and presented so that the taste which is the real essence is not lost. The dim lit interiors, a huge artistic auto rickshaws mural made of silk sarees which adorns the wall and a Portable thela (street cart) on the ceilings are the highlights of the ambiance.
The food is pretty reasonably priced and it’s the reason the place remains crowded all the time. Get refreshed with a range of Desi beverages, Modi Nagar Ki Shikanji, Aam Panna, Kesaria Lassi, Neer Mor (butter milk) to name some. One must try the Jigar Ka Thanda from the beverage list, a sweet mix of Ice Cream and Roohafza Sharbat. One should not miss the Banarasi Tamatar ki chaat from here. Blanched tomatoes cooked with roasted spices and topped with nuts and sev. The Sundae style served Tower Chaat, will remind you of the delicious Dahi Bhalla Papdi from old Delhi.
Our favorite from the snacks section was The Pankhi, A light Gujrati delicacy wrapped around banana leaf served with tangy mint chutney. The Cholle Bhature are light and fluffy, served with tangy chick peas and raw mango pickle, we assure you that Masala Trail will be your best choice to have Cholle Bhature. You will not find Sarson ka Saag and Makki ki roti more delicious than here, anywhere else in the city. The rich and robust flavors of saag topped with house made white butter with the corn roti cooked on tawa is a delectable combination. For the desserts, we highly recommend the Haji Ali Fruit cream and Kulfi Faluda, which are not very sugary but will delight your sweet tooth.
Masala Trail is the next game changer in the restaurant scene of Delhi. With its reasonable pricing and extremely palatable street food offerings it’s a place that one can visit on a regular visit. Do visit and be assured to leave with a belly full and a smile on your face.
Named after the Maurya dynasty, ITC Maurya at Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi is one of the oldest and finest hotels of the city. With its finesse in the hospitality sector, be it accommodation or food and beverage, it hosts the elite class from the society. The Hotel houses the internationally acclaimed restaurants Bukhara and Dum Pukht which have been voted among the top notch restaurants of the world. The Pavilion, the 24 hour coffee shop located at the lobby level of the hotel has always offered a lavish spread of Indian and global cuisine in their elaborate buffet and a la carte formats. Overlooking the poolside with ample of natural light and its cheerful ambiance, The Pavilion is the perfect option for all day dining at The ITC Maurya.
With the onset of winter season, the kitchen brigade under the expertise of Senior Executive Chef Manisha Bhasin introduced a fascinating new menu which we were invited to try. In an interaction with us, Chef Bhasin stresses the need of the purity of the ingredients to be used in each dish which is the key to culinary excellence and has been the prime focus of the Responsible Luxury the hotel offers.
The Pavilion has maintained a tradition of serving bread with a dressing in the start of every meal, so we were served with Amaranth & Finger millet Ciabatta, a crusty bread with Beetroot Pesto to start our culinary journey. The next on the course was a Shrimp Cocktail, drenched in a classic cocktail sauce beautifully presented in large martini glass. The vegetarian dish of this course was cheesy centered Molten Brie with spicy apple chutney. From the Tureen section, a healthy, mild and appetizing Butternut Squash and Carrot Puree was served hot with a crispy toast.
A nicely assembled Chicken Katsu Burger was the star dish of the meal. A huge chicken patty, stacked in a rye and sunflower seeds bun with fresh horseradish served with grain mustard relish. We enjoyed some local love too, with the rich and creamy Butter Chicken served with crispy buttered naans. The vegetarian dish in this course was the Indian street food specialty Dilli Ki Chaat, with portions of Dahi Gujjia, Moong Dal ke gulgulle and Tikki Chaat. The journey ended with sinful and decadent desserts, the first one being The Pavilion chocolate fudge. Soft and moist fudge cake with vanilla ice cream topped with a delicious jaggery sauce. The Milk chocolate parfait was a blend of great texture and a mild sweet taste which gave a perfect ending to our culinary journey.
Do plan a visit to The Pavilion for a cozy and comforting dining experience and be assured to be delighted with these offerings from the new menu with an exemplary service and warm hospitality.
The magical medley of dough, sauce and melty cheese is the key to make an awesome pizza. In a quest to search for the perfect pizza we recently ordered pizzas from Domino’s. Domino’s India has launched a new crust pizza – Dominos Quattro Formaggi Burst Pizza & this pizza is a direct staircase to cheese heaven. Honestly speaking when it comes to pizzas in India we dont have a lot of good options and as far as I am concerned Dominos is definitely the way to go. Easy on the pocket with a huge range of pizzas, their offerings are delicious and perfect for everyone. Whether its the for the family or kids alone, Dominos pretty much has something for everyone. This latest entrant into their menu is a gourmet take on the much adored cheese burst pizza.
The Quattro Formaggi Crust is constituted of 4 kinds of cheese. Normally a four cheese pizza has ricotta, mozzarella, gorgonzola piccante and parmesan but other cheeses could be used. This is a proper gourmet pizza with just the right amount of everything. The reason they call it “burst” is because the moment you bite into it a layer of yellow and white ‘liquidy’ cheese oozes out. Mozzarella, Cheddar, Gouda and Ricotta (on top). Mozzarella lends its characteristic stringy texture; Cheddar, its yellow tinge and sharp flavor; and Ricotta, its grainy texture. For cheese lovers, this is the pizza that shows what heaven tastes like.
On other hand the Domino’s Choco Pizza is actually a detour into the chocolate wonderland with brownie, choco cookie, cheesecake , nougatine & choco fudge sauce on the choco pizza. The chocolate fudge sauce is mesmerising to say the least & the thin base is crunchy enough to give you a waffle feel. It’s so tempting that it’s a test of your self restraint to wait till someone clicks it for Instagram.
In a nutshell, both the quattro formaggi pizza and the choco pizza lives upto the expectations. The pricing is very reasonable and by introducing these two unique and relatable flavours Domino’s India is given a tough competition to it’s competitors.
We recently published an article regarding Ansal Plaza’s re launch with its flagship brands The Arena and Decathlon. With some brand new restaurants coming up, it is going to be the next destination for food and party lovers of the city. Taksim is a new restaurant which opened a few days and something the first mall of New Delhi will be proud of. With its successful outlets in Guangzhou and Kathmandu, the F and B brand enters the Indian Market with an elegant and chic diner.
4200 square feet of space of Taksim is brilliantly done and divided into 3 portions. The ground floor adorns a sophisticated bar which gives a feel of an elegant diner. The first floor is a lounge with a DJ console and the third was our favorite, a beautifully done patio in white theme with comfortable cabanas. Overall the ambiance it provides a vibe for all moods.
The menu boasts of having world cuisine and is quite balanced in terms of the offerings. It certainly is a step ahead of the other lounges where presentation does not matter; the food is served here in king size platters and bowls. Some of the dishes we would recommend from the starter section are the oriental CHICKEN DIMSUMS, DAHI KE SHOLAY and PALAK PATTA CHAAT. From the Mediterranean section one should not miss the classical, CHICKEN SHAWARMA. The CHELLO KEBAB, the mint flavored lamb served on a bed cous cous infused rice with a topping of fried egg is a must try. The pizza lovers would love their wood fired BUTTER CHICKEN PIZZA and CORN AND SPINACH PIZZA. End your meal with the sinful range of desserts, BLUEBERRY CHEESCAKE and BANOFFIE PIE being our favorites.
So plan your next get together, be it a family get together, a casual night out with friends or a romantic date as this place is suitable for all occasions.
A bunch of crazy bloggers decided to give Inox Muchos a try, while watching Dear Zindagi at Inox Jangpura. Obviously we are foodies, so we tried all the flavors (yes!! we take our reviews very seriously :p).
What I loved about their nachos product range was that few flavors had a cheesy dip with them in the packaging. Only eating nachos could be quiet a boring affair (at least for me), if there is a dip, it always makes the experience more delightful. I even loved the price range of the products. All the products were quiet reasonably priced and considering the fact that they come with a dip, I found them quiet pocket friendly. The nachos and popcorn range is not just limited to INOX movie halls, you could find their product range at nearby supermarkets (yes INOX is making sure we have a beautiful movie viewing experience at home too 🙂 ).
My favorites among the INOX muchos range
Coming to the flavors, I quiet enjoyed the toffee caramel popcorn. Smooth, deep & rich caramel combined with creamy English toffee taste in every bite. There are very limited options of sweet popcorn in the market which are priced reasonably, this product definitely shows a lot of promise. In nachos, I quiet enjoyed Cheese and Jalapenos flavor. It is a double mix flavor with a mix of Cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese and jalapeno spiked with aroma of green chilli. It is an indulgent treat for a cheese lover and comes with a cheesy dip. It is made of corn and is a healthier option as compared to a lot of other brands available in the market. It is gluten free and is one of their premium flavor.
The other popular flavors among the bloggers were Salsa Mexcicana and Piri Piri nachos. Quiet enjoyed my movie viewing experience with INOX muchos, overall an evening spent well!
