After my WSET level 1 qualification, I have doing what my teacher Gagan taught me to do, trying out wines multiple times to understand flavours. One of the wines that definitely caught my fancy during this time is the Grover Zampa La Reserve 2014 which was launched in a glittering ceremony St. James Court, London. Before I dive into details about the wine, the Grover Zampa winery at Nandi Hills in Bangalore is one destination you must head to.
Grover Zampa La Reserve 2014 taste profile
The wine has already won multiple awards across the country and even on the International level, the recent one being at the Decanter Asia 2015 where it won the Bronze medal. The La Reserve has been made out of Cabarnet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes and this recipe goes a long way in establishing it’s flavour profile. It starts with the subtle flavours of the Cab Sauv with spicy overtones before evolving into full notes of dark berries of the Shiraz like blueberries. As it has been matured in French Oak barrels, there is a buttery taste of vanilla that is incorporated into the wine.
Grover Zampa La Reserve 2014 Food pairing
Although the suggested pairings for the La Reserve including red meats and poultry with an inclination towards the Indian palate too, I have tried out this wine with quite a few dishes from some of the best restaurants in Delhi.
Tian, ITC Maurya
Tian’s Surf and Turf incorporates a Pork Belly Yakitori and Yuzu buttered Scallops. Plated on a mash of roasted onions, the sweet taste combines with the La Reserve Red.
The Lamb Lasagne is a South Asian introspect which curates out a Lasagne out of pumpkin with a North Thai yellow curry. The hit of lemongrass is something to definitely look forward to.
Wildfire, Crowne Plaza Today Gurgaon
Peito De Pato: French duck sprinkled with rock salt, orange and tobacco
Fraldinha: Tenderloin marinated with Gover La Reserve Cabernet – Shiraz and seasoned to perfection.
The wine is priced at INR 1050.
