It’s always fun to try out new wines with a couple of friends. So when Malay Kumar brought over a sample of wines that he has started marketing in Uttar Pradesh with plans to market them soon in Delhi. We decided to try out some of his wines from the German Rhineland where the Dr Zenzen Winery has been plying it’s trade for nearly 80 years now. The winery is now owned by Dr Peter Zenzen and his wife Regina Zenzen out of Kaisersesch, Germany.
The Sparkling from Dr Zenzen winery
One of the first wines that I tried out was the Sparkling. With a good bouquet of fruity flavours on the nose, the wine starts off with a sweetness that reminds you of a Prosecco and will generally sit well with the Indian audience. The fruity flavours open onto a slightly vegetal tints before having a long finish on the palate. The acidity combines with the sweet and the fruit to give this wine quite an interesting flavour.
The Reisling from Dr Zenzen winery
Another of Dr Zenzen’s wine that we try out is their Reisling. A wine that had been created to suit the German winters, it has a plentiful of flavours that impressed me quite a bit. Starting with a floral and fruitful bouquet on the nose, it an off-dry to semi sweet with a palate of pears and pineapples before the short crisp acidity ends on the palate.
The Red from Dr Zenzen winery
I also try out one of his reds: the Vino Noire. A interesting group of flavours that combines well with a bit of acidity and medium tannins that balance it out quite well. There is also a plethora of fruits on the palate including dark berries like blackberries and currants.
The wines from the Dr Zenzen vineyards are soon going to be arriving in Delhi and are going to be priced at around INR 1500-2000. Do try them out and let us know how you like it?
