With a recent spew of wine conferences in Canada and Hungary, we have been trying to find out the best places to find the Old World wines in Delhi NCR. One restaurant that has always managed to keep a distinguished list of wines yet keeping rates under control is The Wine Company at Cyber Hub in Gurgaon. Even after being there for more than 3 years and surviving falsified controversies, the restaurant has managed to not only survive but actually flourish pretty well. We, at Salt and Sandals decided to pay a visit.
One of the reasons that this restaurant has always managed to draw my attention is because of the casual elegance it has. Although being based on a wine concept, it does away with the stuffiness of a fine dine and allows you to enjoy a glass of wine with your friend, just like an Italian Trattoria. The various seating arrangements are perfect for either a conversation or a celebration. But the reason this place has excelled is not only due to the wine it stores, but also the food it serves. Parts of the menu are displayed all over the restaurant drawing you more and more into options to try out.
What all to try at the Wine Company?
One of the most iconic of its dishes is the Crispy Karari Roti. A gigantic Indian bread converted into a perfect accompaniment to any kind of drink you would want to venture out into. Splashed with a load of Chaat Masala and all type of Indian spices, this crispy delight is perfect for everything from a Prosecco to a Barolo. Although The Wine Company stores a formidable wine list including separate sections on Old World, New World and India along with a store for buying your favorite bottle, it also impresses with it’s Sangria. Not being a big fan of Sangria, I tried out the Peach and Orange Sparkling Sangria with quite some trepidation but eventually fall in love with the flavours that are perfect for the blazing sun outside. You can also choose from a range of some of the other Sangria such as the Plum, Berry Red Wine Sangria and the Pear, Cinnamon and White Wine Sangria.
One of the best reasons to try out wine at a restaurant that stores a lot of wine is that you will find quite a few of them by the glass and this is similarly true for The Wine Company. But, as I said earlier, the kitchen serves out some finger licking food. Our recommendations include the Bruschetta platter having the Flamed Pear & Port Cooked Mushrooms with Goat Cheese, Sundrued Tomatoes with Caramelised Onions and Brie, Parma Ham, Bocconcini, Dried Prunes and Arugula along with the salty Goat Cheese Salad and some delectable pizza including Chorizo with Scarmoza Pizza.
The Wine Company is one of my favorite places to drink wine in the city allowing an extensive wine list, even by the glass along with some scrumptious food to accompany it.
P.S.: The Sunday Brunch here has Prosecco, the Italian Sparkling on it instead of a mix from around the world 😉
