Shirts are a way of life for the geeks. With other awesome looking clothes not hiding the imperfections, the shirt is the one and only saviour of the geek. But wearing a simple button down shirt can come with its own set of problems. Muffins tops or bunching up of the shirt leads to embarrassing body shapes. But fear not, we will teach you the basic four tucks to keep the shirt perfectly in place throughout the day. The most important thing for these techniques to work is to have a shirt which at least moderately hugs your body. Having a very loose shirt will not help matters at all. With online shopping in India on the rise, this problem has become much more acute. Before we start, you can check out this wonderful range of shirts from Arrow.
1) The Basic Trouser Tuck
This is where most men start and finish their shirt-tucking education. The shirt tails are inserted shoved straight down all the way around the waist. The trousers are buttoned around the waist. With a snug fit trousers, the shirt mostly will stay there. Just because it’s easy doesn’t mean this is a bad tuck. If you don’t want to think too hard, this is the way to go. But be cautioned: it works well with a fitted shirt only and terribly with anything else. If your shirt doesn’t have a close, well-tailored fit, you will need a little more technique to deal with the excess fabric.
2) The Military Tuck
This is how the armed forces are taught to tuck in their uniform shirts. It creates a pair of folded pleats, which are then pinned flat by the trouser waist for a crisp, stiff tuck. You stand straight in your shirt, and fold the loose fabric into a sharp diagonal crease. To make things easier, more like an aeroplane. Now put the trousers over the shirt and belt it up.
3) The Underwear Tuck
No the underwear tuck does not refer to tucking the shirt into the underwear but this one mostly deals with properly tucking the undershirt into the underwear. This is the order in which the fabrics should be present on your waistline. Undershirt followed by Underwear followed by the shirttails. Then come the trousers and the belt. The underwear tuck is a perfect way to secure your shirt and make sure that it remains tucked in.
4) Shirt Stays – The Ultimate Shirt Tuck
Shirt stays are small garters that secure your shirt in the best way possible. Although this is a style not used in India, but believe me when I tell you that this gives some awesome results. The garters are fixed to one end of your shirt tails. The other ends are fixed to your socks. Pull up your trousers over them and voila, you got a shirt which won’t be easily untucked, even with rough use.
