The place that strikes many when you think of celebrating a special occasion with your loved ones is Hauz Khas Village and I guess many of you living in and around South Delhi would agree with me on this. The place is absolutely buzzing in the night and on weekends you can thank your stars if you find a parking in and around the vicinity. Packed street, tipsy feet, and some beautifully lit up lights is now a very common site in HKV and people just keep coming back here because of the choices you get here. I remember visiting HKV 7-8 years back when this place was know only because of some high end designers and now the scenario is completely different.
There’s one more reason to visit Hauz Khas Village now that is to check out this casual dining place – The Village Balcony. This joint is located pretty close to famouse joints like Fork You, Niice cream and Chayoos at entry of HKV, so on the plus side you don’t have to worry about brushing shoulders with too much of crowd.
Food Talks
The Village Balcony has attempted a menu with Indian fusion, European and South Asian cuisine. Having been greeted by the restaurant Manager, we opted to sit in their balcony. The interior is woody, contemporary and cosy enough while you see the Chefs at work through the glass window that separates the eating area with the kitchen.
Grilled Sattu soup: A first of its kind, this gram flour based soup was garnished with curry leaves and coconut pieces. A north-south Indian mix which was pretty good in taste.
Chicken in rum: Chicken drumsticks with a sweet sour tangy flavour offered with a good well made barbecue sauce, this one was my favourite! Loved the chunky chicken legs, soft, succulent and full of flavour.
Chicken Hush puppies: I liked the chicken dumplings served on a tomato base with crisp croutons. With three big chicken hush puppies, the combination of the sauce was great.
Marwari Empanadas- This is the much needed marriage of Samosa and Gujiya. The filling is cheesy and absolutely lip smacking. I never knew potatoes could taste like that. Crisp on the outside, One bite and you get a gooey mix of potatoes and cheese.
Gatte Curry- Just what I needed. The classic Rajasthani dish with a twist. The gravy was delicious and flavourful. Served with pure ghee and Bajre ki Roti. A meal in itself
Overall, TVB is a great attempt and great place to spend a winter evening with your special one! The price is very reasonable and service is prompt. Surely recommendable!.
