Thai Pavilion welcomes the joyous festival of Loy Krathong. Loy Krathong is a Siamese festival celebrated annually throughout the Kingdom of Thailand. The name could be translated as “to float a basket,” and comes from the tradition of making krathong or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river.
Celebrating Loy Krathong, Thai Pavilion resists the ancient tradition of cooking inside the bamboo joints. The unique menu offers delicacies like Mai Pai Koong, Mai pai pla, Mai pai kai and Mai pai heaw etc. Fragrant with the aroma of bamboo, kaffir lime, fresh turmeric, galangal and other Thai wild spices, the whole meal was a journey of captivating flavors.
My Review on the drinks
I started with a refreshing welcome drink which had lemongrass, mint, kaffir lime leaves, ginger, apple juice and pineapple juice. The drink was absolutely bursting with flavors and it was a delight on every sip.
Next I ordered Siam Sunray which had coconut rum in it. Let me warn you the drink is super strong and super refreshing. The mild flavors of kaffir lime, lemongrass, ginger complimented the vodka and coconut rum beautifully. I absolutely love cocktails which are not sweet and this was bang on!
My Review on the food
I am a big fan of eating rice out of bamboo joints but this was the first time for me eating a curry out of the bamboo joint. Chef told us, it actually takes 2-3 hours to prep the curries and it actually shows the effort & hardwork which takes in making these curries.
I tried Mai Pai Phak Hed and Mai Pai Tahu. Both the curries were on a spicier side and I absolutely loved the flavor combination. Phak Hed was exotic mushrooms cooked with Makhroot (i.e. Kaffir lime leaves) and was a little more spicier then the Tahu curry. My personal favorite was the Tahu curry. I absolutely loved the play of flavors, crispy & juicy waterchestnut with soft Tofu. The jungle curry flavors were bang on, you could taste the lovely Thai spices on every bite.
The meal was accompanied with Chinese greens and I absolutely loved how the whole meal was wholesome & hearty.
My Review on Thai Pavillion desserts
Saving the best for the last, I think no one should think of stepping out of Thai Pavilion without trying their signature desserts.
