Always scheduled on the first weekend of February, Indian Derby is probably the most coveted and prestigious sporting event in the country. And the most fashionable as well! Venue: Mahalaxmi Race Course. First started in 1943!
The event sees the best and the worst of fedoras and hats, gowns and dresses and celebrities. McDowell’s Signature did justice to the legacy of this event, and arranged an extremely stylish day out, for everyone who attended the event. With a beautiful flea market, live bands belting out evergreen classics as well as popular numbers the grand food and liquor stalls, pretty decorations and accessories, warm welcoming and all other things in perfect place, it was indeed a different day out. And there was never a dull moment!
The event saw a host of celebrities, from Kareena and Saif Ali Khan to Vijay Mallya, and many other well known faces. Kareena and Saif, to some extent, did steal the thunder of this much popular legendary event, with their gracious presence. And they looked dapper, as always! The Derby saw the largest crowd since Independence, as well.
Desert Storm, owned by Mrs. Sharmila Padmanabhan and Mr. S Padmanabhan stole the Derby, over favorite Myrtlewood and other favorites. Desrt Storm was trained by Pesi Shroff, India’s most successful jockey and trainer, and was rode by David Allan.
A fine day it was, at the Kingfisher Ultra #SignatureDerby16, organised by McDowell’s Signature.
