Rara Avis ,which translates into a “rare bird” in French is a very unique restaurant and signifies something rare. A brainchild of Mr.Rajiv Aneja,it is a typical French themed restaurant with a beautiful terrace and serves authentic and rustic French food. It is one of the very few French restaurants in Delhi. The menu changes with season. The summer menu is light and has more salads. The winter menu is more rich and creamy.
Salade de Chevre Chaud, croutons topped with creamy goat cheese, is a delight to the palate. Croutes aux Morilles is a dish made with a very rare and expensive variety of mushrooms. The taste of this dish is divine and is a treat to the taste buds. It is a dish that is recommended to everyone, vegetarian or non-vegetarian. The dish is quite photogenic as well.
Les Escargots is a French dish made up of snail and garlic butter. Having it here was a memorable experience for me as I was tasting snail for the first time.
The fresh Baguettes are amazing. These breads are very simple yet an integral part of French cuisine.
Magrets de Canard aur Fruits Rouges is an amazing and delicious combination of duck breast , cranberries, and pepper.
The wild mushroom risotto, Risotto Du Sous Bois, is delicious. It is creamy and the mushrooms are nicely cooked. Ravioles Patate Douce Ricotta is ravioli stuffed with sweet potato, served in tomato sauce. Crepes Epinards Gratinee, cheesy crepes with spinach filling, are amazing. They were surprisingly light.
The Creme Brulee is one of the most loved classic French desserts, and Rara Avis did full justice to it. The Tiramisu Traditional which was the main highlight of the day comprised of cocoa, mascarpone cheese, and Kalhua. It was the best Tiramisu I have ever tried.
In a Nutshell 5\5 to a place after a very long time..There are rarely any restaurants that serves you traditional french food. This place actually serves you the one. I must say that Rara Avis lives up to its name, bringing something unique to lovers of good food. It’s truly superb!
