Although there are a plethora of Bengalis living in Delhi NCR, the absence of good Bengali food is quite appalling. A lot of my friends have asked me about the best places to find Bengali food. Pet Puraan located in Gurgaon DLF Phase 4 serves out some authentic Bengali food that you should definitely think about trying out. I am listing out quite a few of the dishes that you should order from here.
What all we tried out at the Pet Puraan?
Dum Aloo: Bengali Food was never meant to be healthy and we love our potatoes be it the simple Jhoodi Bhaaja(thinly sliced potatoes deep fried) or the Dum Aloo(deep fried potatoes cooked in a curry) The Dum Aloo goes like a dream with the Luchis(Maida pooris)
Kosha Mangsho: A mutton dish that is possibly the staple of every Bengali household. The mutton is just taken down a few minutes before it becomes melt in your mouth which allows it to retain its meaty texture with the explosion of spices on the palate.
Prawn Malai Curry: The prawn dish is more of a favorite of the Ghotis from the West Bengal. This royal dish tempers the heat from the spices with coconut milk and cream which give it a smooth, creamy texture. A dish usually made at festivities especially when Mohun Bagan triumphs over East Bengal.
Rohu Curry: Rohu fish tempered with mustard and cooked in a curry of tomatoes and other spices including Turmeric and Paanch Phoron. The fish becomes flaky soft while the rancid mustard plays havoc with your senses.
Hilsa: East Bengalis will swear by and kill in the name of this. One of the fishes with a unique flavor, the real challenge is in eating it without using all your limbs like a primate. Those who have mastered the technique will savor this any day.
Biryani: The typical Bengali Biryani differs quite a bit from the usual with the addition of a potato and an egg to accentuate the flavors.
