On Wednesday, 3th August 2016, Chinese smartphone Giants OPPO launched the Oppo F1s selfie-focused smartphone at an event in J.W Marriott, Mumbai, India. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 17,990, and will be available from August 11 from Amazon India and retail stores across the country. It will be available in Gold, Rose Gold, and Grey colour variants.
Team Salt and Sandals was lucky to get hands on the phone before the official launch. Currently I am using I Phone 6s and it proved to be a parameter for comparison. I have been playing with this device for past 6 days and I am impressed with this phone that combines the features of Android with the easy interface of iOS with the bonus of a fabulous camera.
More about OppoF1s
The OppoF1s boasts a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, certainly one of the major highlight of the smartphone. Other selfie-focused features on the smartphone include its Beautify 4.0 app for selfie editing, the Selfie Panorama feature that stitches together three selfies, and the Screen Flash feature. I have used earlier models introduced by this company. The inception of the beauty mode was with their Signature mobile phone U701. It was further evolved beautifully with N-1 which had World’s first 206• rotating camera. The predecessor to F1 and F1 plus took the selfie experience to a new level.
OppoF1s Specifications
The touchscreen smartphone has dual sim capacity. It is 2G/3G/4G enabled with GPRS and EDGE capability. The device has Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB v2.0. It has a 5.5 inch display screen with AMOLED display. The Corning Gorilla Glass 4 provides it an amazing durability. With internal memory of 32GB and additional 256GB expendable memory makes it a storage giant. The 3GB RAM makes the processing fast and user friendly. Above the 5.5-inch screen, there are only the earpiece, ambient light and proximity sensors and, on the left, the high-res 16MP front camera. Below the screen, there is a rounded home button that integrates a fingerprint reader, a pair of capacitive buttons on either side. These are absolutely invisible when not backlit.
OPPOF1s v/s I Phone 6s
First Look- The OPPOF1s and I Phone 6s both have their main power buttons on the right and volume buttons on the left. Both also have the charging dock, audio jack, speaker grille and mike on the bottom while on the top rear, they have the camera and LED flash. Just the placements differ slightly in both. And the OPPO is slimmer but weighing 143gms makes the iPhone lighter. The phone at first glance is identical to I Phone 6s plus.
Camera- The 13 mega pixel primary camera in Oppo is more is more effective than the 12 mega pixel primary camera of I phone. The Secondary 16 mega pixel camera is way ahead in producing quality pictures. While the camera menu in the iPhone include the options to take Slo-Mo, Video, Photo, Square and Panorama, the camera menu in the F1s has Time Lapse, Video, Pictures, Beauty and Panorama. The “Beauty” feature of the OPPO F1s is the Beautify 4.0 which helps to highlight your best features while minimising flaws. Like the iPhone, you can also add various filters to your pictures, but the F1s also has the added advantage of Ultra HD, GIF Animation, Double Exposure and Expert Mode.
OPPOF1s Vs Samsung A7
First Look
Samsung A7 could be called a close competitor to the OPPOF1s considering that the pricing is kind of similar. Samsung A7 is priced for 20,000₹, whereas, OPPO F1s will be available for whopping 17,990₹. Both the phones have a 13MP rear camera. The front cam on the A7 is 5Mp while on the F1s, as we already know, is a whopping 16MP. While both phones are pretty much the same in length and breadth, the A7 is a bit thicker and heavier than the F1s.
Camera
Both the phones have similiar specifications for the rear camera, the picture quality shows a big difference. The pictures on the Samsung A7 didn’t turn out as sharp and clear and bright as those on the OPPO F1s. And of course, neither did the selfies.
Final Verdict
Priced at ₹17990, the OPPOF1s has features to rival the best of high-end phones. Besides being lightweight and sleek, it is also a powerhouse in terms of performance. I forgot to mention the VOOC Flash charger that is the fastest and safest charging technology to make the phone charge fast and give it a long lasting battery life. I also love the fact that unlike the iPhone, you have the option of expandable memory (or a dual SIM as your requirements may be). But best of all, I love the camera! If you want a smartphone that looks like an iPhone, performs like an iPhone (I’m talking about the user interface) yet is powered by Android, takes amazing selfies and costs half as much as the leading high-end phones, then I highly recommend the OPPO F1s.
