Veere di Wedding fails & disappoints on all accounts of movie making. The characters are superficial – caricatures of some personalities, with weak story telling, music, direction, acting & screenplay sprinkled with borrowed tit bits of assumingly “winning” moments from other successful movies.
Sonam plays the character of a tough professional divorce lawyer in tees hazari looking for a husband at 30 because she wants everything in life. What she comes across is a glamorous, superficial doll who is always dressed up in designer clothes, make-up, jewellery who has no impact or anything significant to say. (Her scene in court closing an alimony case is laughable).
On the other hand Kareena, who has delivered brilliant performances in films like Omkara & Jab we Met not only looks unimpressive & disinterested but it seems that even she herself doesn’t like the character of a commitement phobic Kalindi Puri girl whose half hearted story is being narrated from the eyes of her deceased mother. Moreover this movie also stages one of her worst looks & performances.
Swara however manages to shine through the part given to her & is the only delight in the movie. Men in the movie are so blurry in the background that there is nothing to say.
Why the Kareena Kapoor starer Veere Di Wedding fails to impress??
The underlying tone of the movie is that today’s women will have all the fun by chilling out in the best spots of south delhi, in best of make up, jewellery, clothes, hugging, having alcohol, gol gappas, swearing, sleeping around randomly (sonam gets drunk on kareena’s engagement & sleeps with a “dukandaar” who is not even a 12th pass as she confesses in the phuket trip), making fun of west delhi, have no career (except sonam & that too is..well), make mistakes, just go with the flow & have a happy ending to their fairy tale every day by their own definition.
Bollywood is indeed going through a transformation because movies like “Parmanu” & “Raazi” are being made with real stories, research, storylines, emotions & sensitivity. On the final note Veere Di Wedding is definitely not one of those movies worth a watch.
