“The Monkey Bar” in Connaught Place is a restaurant with a seating space of 70 with additional 20+ standing in the space near the bar. Team Salt and Sandals visited the restaurant on a weekend to try out the new additions in the menu which has been recently launched.
Location : The place is located in the heart of New Delhi, Connaught place. Location plays a vital role as being located in C.P the place can easily get clientele from South, west and North Delhi.
About the place : The Monkey Bar is spread over two floors with the terrace offering a charming view of the Indian flag at CP. The music and comfortable seating gives it the feel of any other neighbourhood bar. The best part about Monkey bar at C.P is that the menu and decor is completely different from the Vasant kunj outlet making it a different experience altogether with the same Monkey Bar label attached to it.
Food Talks :
Chef was kind enough to design a customised menu for this event which was consisting of their Signature dishes, hot selling items and also the latest addition to their menu.
The journey started with Mochar Chop and Pav Bhaji cheesy grills. Mochar Chop is basically a banana flower croquette. Ask any Benagli and you’ll surely find a mention of this awesome Bengali street food creation. Pav Bhaji is undoubtedly one of the best foods in Mumbai. Here the cheese slices did the trick in place of butter. The pav was tender and fresh. The only element that I found missing was the dry garlic chutney with groundnuts that is famous in Maharasthra. Probably here they are doing it differently to retain their Monkey bar touch.
It was followed by Peppered Calamari, Lal maas phulka Tacos and Mrs Yvumna Pinto’s Masala prawn pickle. Peppered calamari can work as either a main dish or an appetizer. It is a great result of combining some different salt and pepper squid. As soon as they served us the dish we gobbled them down so fast that we forgot to take a photo. One of the major highlight of the day for me was Lal maas phulka tacos. It was not soggy the meat was spicy, tender and juicy and having lal maas with tacos is like a dream come true. Masala prawn pickle is served with a pav. It had a great domination of spices like coriander, garlic and garam masala with tanginess of pickle in it.
For mains we relied upon their signature Black and Red burgers respectively called mobar burger and Yakuza burger. Mobar burger is black bun with 150gms of patties with lettuce, bacon, cheese, caramelized onion, tomato and lot more.
The Yakuza burger is red bun with tender chicken breast cutlet, siracha cabbage, green curry mayo, sprouts and lettuce. Red burger gets the color from Beetroot which is also known for making a famous dessert called Red Velvet, whereas the black burger gets the color from dried brinjal.
The meal definitely ended on a high note with desserts like Brioche butter pudding and old monk(ey) chocolate cake. On the whole the experience was tremendously good and It deserves a 4.5/5.
The most interesting trait of this grub pub are the people who manage it on the ground. Smiling waiters and a charming host keep every table engaged with witty conversations and there is never a boring moment. We are definitely going back to try some of their more crazy inventions, take a seat by the window overlooking the grandeur of Indian Flag.
