Masabaa in African means “Wild flower”, revolutionary in essence, and so true to its meaning, Masabaa is all set to revolutionize the fine dine culture in our city with its extravagance and massiveness. It is that place you always desire to spend that special occasion savoring some special food. The lavishness, the ornateness and the flamboyance and the exuberance of the place leaves a lasting impression on you.
A wonderful creation by Naman Jindal, located in the the poshest locality of NCR, i.e., Punjabi Bagh, a place known for the swanky bungalows, Masabaa, with its extravagance fits perfectly.
The property is divided into 2 restaurants – Masabaa-the lounge and bar and Masabaa-the Treasury.
Ambiance:
‘Masabaa – Lounge and Bar’, with an elegant lion welcoming you as you step out of the elevator, dim low lighting, hawaiin dancers statues, a large screen, in-house DJ and a great bar this place gives you the feel of a Medieval Bar and ‘Masabaa – The Treasury’, the interiors are very chic and classy just like a Royal Ball room or a 5 star Banquet. Lavish lush chandeliers hang on all tables. There is ample lighting. The place is done in Gold color and looks like a treasure room – just like the name suggests – Masabaa the treasury. Plush seating and upholstery done in velvet looks so chic and classy that one’s truly impressed.
Service:
The service staff was very efficient and took care of all our minutest requests.
Food:
The menu has options from across cuisines. They have hand picked and created some classic dishes from across the world. So if you have friends who have varied tastes, Masabaa can cater to any taste preference across cuisines.
We tried a variety of their dishes as we were a big group of hungry foodies, they are as follows:
Assorted kebab Platter Non-veg: a non-veg platter consisting of small portions of murgh seekh kebab(decent in taste), murgh malai tikka(really succulent, melt-in -your -mouth), tandoori chicken, silbate ka gilawat with ulta tawa paratha(super soft and flavorsome galwati kabab served on mini ulta tawa paratha), the platter was good!!
Wok fried fish in black bean sauce: one of the best dish i had, a thick fillet of fish wok fried in delicious and chunky black bean sauce, the fish was flaky and soft and tasted divine with the perfect balance of flavors.
Margherita pizza: a thin and soft based, pizza with generous amount of tomato sauce and ample cheese to give it that lingering cheesy taste….
Crispy honey chili lotus stem: deep fried thin sliced of lotus stem tossed in chili honey sauce topped with toasted sesame seeds, were a delight to the taste buds…really crispy with the perfect sweet and spicy taste…loved them.
Chicken dim sums: steamed chicken dumplings filled with ample amount of succulent chicken mince mixed with the bite of onion dices, served with two types of sauces to accompany, were decent.
Bhuna ghosht: lamb morsels and cubes braised with onion, yogurt and kashmiri red chili, the gravy was chunky and flavorsome and the mutton was cooked to perfection, really soft and juicy.
Dal masabaa: it is basically dal makhani served masabaa style, slow cooked black lentils with tomato and cream was delicious, subtle and creamy.
Subz biryani: fresh vegetables cooked with brown onions, yogurt and mint with saffron flavored basmati rice, the biryani was mildly spiced and aromatic served in a beautiful dish.
Penne ala arrabiata: penne pasta cooked in tomato sauce finished with parmesan shavings , accompanied with garlic bread….not a crowd pleaser in particular, pasta was cooked well but lacked flavor and seasoning.
an assortment of breads were presented to accompany the main course.
Apart from the above dishes, we were also served with some veg delicacies like assorted veg platter veg, dahi ke kebab, paneer tikka sunheri, treasury paneer kalyani, unfortunately i could not have a taste of them as my fellow foodie swiped if all off the plate before it reached me, but from their reaction i can assure that the dishes were well enjoyed by them and taste delicious and looked impeccable too.
to gulp it all down we ordered a variety of drinks, some of which are:
masabaa green: fresh mint, pineapple crush, pineapple juice finished with sprite, the drink was fizzy, sweet and tangy and really refreshing cuz of the mint…
metro kiss: guava juice, mint, tobacco, served in a martini glass with salt rim, the drink was lip-smacking with tiny ice crushes and guava pulp….
along with the above some other drinks loved by my fellow foodies were:
white russian, brev bull, mint chee, electric blue, italian smooch, belgium chocolate martini…
lastly to end the lavish lunch, with stuffed bellied we binged on:
chocolate and cinnamon fondant with vanilla ice cream: the chocolate fondant was baked to perfection, soft and spongy with gooey chocolate sauce inside, though it lacked the prominent cinnamon flavor, but still was a delight to eat, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Food is great, loved the presentation and loved that the chef came to meet us and took our feedback. Palatial interiors, Royal look and feel, glittering scintillating ambiance, nice food and great service make Masabaa one of the great fine dine destinations in the city.
