Kheer, the Indian representation of flavours at the Roseate House, New Delhi Aerocity is one Indian restaurant that has impressed me with it’s flavours. The restaurant has propositioned itself quite successfully as one that offers Indian flavours without overpowering it with masalas under the aegis of Chef Anuj Wadhawan. The restaurant in itself is humongous with a Bar near it’s entry. The wall separating it from the main part of the restaurant is studded with India’s favorite alcoholic beverage, Whiskey. At the other end of the restaurant are the live kitchens which house the Tandoor along with a Chaat counter. We decide to try out the signature Palak Chaat which unlike the other one I find in the streets of Delhi focuses primarily on the Palaak Pakoras (Spinach Fritters).
What to try out at Kheer?
Let’s get to some of the Kebabs now. Be it the Hare Matar ka Kebab made out of Green Peas or Chukandaar Chilgoze ki Kebab made out of Beetroot and Pine Nuts, vegetarians can never have enough. But it’s not just vegetarian flavours that dominate, the Silbatte ki Kebab which is made up of pounded Lamb meat or the Patthar ke Kebab which is another Lamb Kebab but this time cooked on stone. The grill features one of my favourite ingredients, the Guchchi mushrooms which are stuffed with more mushrooms, Khoya and Cheddar Cheese.
The curries at Kheer
Let’s get onto the mains now. There’s a Paneer Kesar e Pukhtaan which redefines Paneer dishes for me. The soft morsels are cooked in a red Pumpkin and Tomato gravy that gives it a luscious taste. But it is the Rampuri Chicken Stew and the Murgh Kolhapuri that has me fascinated.
The former impressed with the heat from the Black Pepper while the spices from Maharashtra makes for a delectable delight. There’s also a Jodhpuri Aloo cooked with curd that has a distinct sour taste. We decide to lap it all up with a Khumbh Khichdi topped off with Mushrooms and a truffle oil.
Dessert at Kheer
Dessert at Kheer was always going to be interesting. You might be able to choose the Chef’s specials Badam Cake made with Zucchini or the Kalakand Tart with Carmel Sauce or even a selection of Kulfi but nothing beats the Kheer at Kheer. You can either choose between a Gil-e-Firdaus made with Bottle Gourd or a Javvirisi Payasam made with a Tapioca or even a Ras Kheer made with Jaggery or even a Kheer tasting platter that has all the three of them in a single place.
