Jamie’s Italian is in India and it is a big change from our Big Chill days. With a rustic setting where friends can sit over a platter of antipasti, drink a glass of wine and discuss the matters of the day, Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant brings authentic Italian food closer to the Indian masses. We start off with a huge platter of Vegetarian Antipasti propped up on bottles of Tomato sauce. There is some cheese and Sicilian Caponatta Bruschetta along with a series of chargrilled vegetables in garlic and herb infused oil along with a salad. We pair it off with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
Next in line are some Meatball Bruschetta which turns out to be the Chef’s dish of the day. The Honeycomb Canelloni Trio gets quickly demolished. The beautiful sweet flavours of pumpkin with the crispy cannelloni rolls outside combined with the mild flavour of cheese and the sweet tomato sauce. The Squid Rings with Aioli are perfect on crispiness. Dash them with a sprinkle of lime before you dip them in the aioli and plunk it into your mouth. But one of standouts of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants are the Garlic Bread. Unlike the thick ones available at other restaurants, this one is thin, hand rolled and an explosion of garlicky creaminess. For the mains, we try out the Rigatoni Pomodoro, a perfectly balanced sequence of flavours in the sweet red sauce.
Jamie’s Italian may just become the go to place for warm healthy Italian food. With a load of people now starting to love the authentic taste of Italian food, Jamie’s may just be the next big thing in the market
