The newly launched Garam Dharam, ‘Dhaba te Theka’ is a perfect tribute to Dharmendra ji and takes inspirations from the movies, dialogues and songs of the legendary veteran actor. Garam Dharam is a joint venture of restaurateurs Umang Tiwari and Micky Mehta who are already running successful units like Vault café , Zai , Skooter and have taken some inputs from Dharam ji himself for the idea of the restaurant.
The 4000 square feet space is innovatively decorated like an old style filmy bar and contemporary dhaba. The entrance and the walls adorn , Dharamji’s posters , paintings , pictures of the great actor. The staff uniforms have the famous dialogues of his movies printed on them. You will really like the semi dim lighting effect given by different colored bulbs implanted in inverted kitchen utensils and aluminum buckets hanging from the ceiling.
This place offers Desi drinking concepts and has introduced cocktails in filmy names like PYARE MOHAN NIMBU MASALA, KHATTI MEETHI CHULBULI, JAWANI BHARI GULABO etc which are served in desi small sized pauvas and banta bottles. You may choose the base and the measure of the liquor you are ordering according to your preference. We ordered a GULABO and CHULBULI with 60 ml vodka each. Before the cocktails arrived, complimentary butter milk was served which was quite a refresher with a touch of cumin. The presentation and the taste of the cocktails are quite unique. The chulbuli was tangy and sour whereas The Gulabo had a dominant paan and rose flavor. The PYARE MOHAN which we ordered later too tasted nice with a lemony touch. THE RISKY CHUSKI section in the beverage menu will also catch your attention and is something which should not go missed. The alcohol infused ice chuskis are served in traditional chai glasses and come in various flavors such as KALA KHATTA which is sweet and sour, CHATAK MATAK CHAMELI which is spicy with mint and tamarind and KUSUM KI KACHI KALI, a hibiscus flavored sweet chuski.
The food is north Indian cuisine, a combination of dhaba food with a few street food items. The food menu we were told is crafted creatively keeping in mind the favorite dishes and preferences of the legendary actor himself. For the appetizers we started with KALI MIRCHI CHICKEN TIKKA which was succulent and spiced up nicely with black pepper. The ANANAS KI CHAAT was a great appetizer which was sweet and tangy. DAHI KE KEBABS were glistened nicely with ghee and had sourness of the hung curd as a stuffing. On our request a platter consisting of a variety of non veg starters namely, TANDOORI MURGH, GARAM DHARAM SOYA CHAAMP and SEEKH KEBAB was prepared, and the platter was filled with robust Indian flavors. The starters were served with ice cold hari chutney and complimented the cocktails really well.
In the main course we played safe and ordered, rich and creamy DAL MAKHANI which was the show stealer of the meal with delectable RARA MEAT and KADHAI PANEER. The mutton was juicy and wrapped up with keema. The paneer dish had spicy gravy to go with and the meal was accompanied with crispy hot TANDOORI ROTIS which were served one by one on our table. The meal ended on a sweet note with a piping hot, soft, melt in the mouth GULAB JAMUN.
The restaurant also offers a take away concept with unique TIFFIN SERVICE which serves 2 people and THALIS which are fixed meals to cater for the office goers
Garam Dharam is a place which will joyfully delight you from the moment you enter. From a filmy setting and food which will make a desi food lover salivate it has it all. All in all, a place serving dhaba food at dhaba prices to all age groups and a filmy experience that you would love to cherish again and again.
