When a tried tested stalwart of Delhi comes to Bangalore, you rush. Like a mad hare. You want to be there before anyone else can be and that’s exactly what we did. On a breezy Wednesday evening we landed up at the newest kid on the block. Farzi Café in UB City Bengaluru. Open to the elements on 3 sides the restaurant was raving even on a weekday which if you ask us is a great sign for any establishment.

Bangalore is one of the most conducive cities to open air dining and Farzi has played that to its advantage. The décor has a very Mediterranean vibe with billowing sheer curtains, wood and cream accents the place is aesthetically pleasing. One thing that makes Farzi stand out is the absolutely incredible music. It gets you popping and thumping even before you sit down!image

Food & Drinks at Farzi Cafe

Served by the fabulously chirpy Moumita we started off the evening with a 2 stunning cocktails. A Farzi Apple Foamtini- which is quite a popular drink with the ladies- and the Chai Pani- a refreshing twist on Masala Chai.
The Foamtini comes in a martini chiller with a lovely aura of mint mist and a strong smell of Apples. The drink was vodka based yet the flavours of the Elderflower and the Granny Smith transported you to a beach in Ibiza.
Following this yummy drink was the Chai Pani- A vodka based drink served in a tea pot with cutting glasses. It was delicately infused with a mixed tea concoction, apple juice and a wafting fume of Earl Grey. The coffee liqueur really popped and took the drink to a whole new level.image

Following two totally delish cocktails was the Mini Raj Kachori with Crispy Okra Salad and Chutney Foam. Served nice and cold the okra salad was the element that really rounded the dish off. The Kachori was true in its tribute to Dilli ki chaat and the flavours were spot on.
Then came the Star dish of the night, something that really knocked the whole game out of the park! The Delhi Belly Tikka with roasted russet apples and murraba glaze. A melt in your mouth Pork belly served on a sigri, with roasted warm apples and a few bites of fresh radish. I could rave about this dish for eons to come. The Pork Belly was cooked to utter perfection and the flavours of pomegranate accentuated the dish and complimented it very well.
Tapas taken to a new level is what the small plates are like at Farzi. The Besant Nagar fried chillies with tamarind and chilli salsa was a complete party for the palate! Bite Sized green chillies stuffed with Cream Cheese and coated with Rava fried to crispy heaven served with a homemade tamarind and red chilli salsa! Uniquely served in a cane basket with a banana leaf. It almost felt like I was sitting on the Besantnagar beach in Tamil Nadu munching on chilli Bhajiya by the sea.
Paniyaram- aka Paddu yaki- a modern take on the classic South Indian snack. Cooked in a special pan with rice batter this dish was soft and fluffy and paired wonderfully with crispy pine nuts, gun powder and tomato chutney. Amazingly enough the Paddu yaki was served on a shovel!

Our lovely affair with the tapas came to an end around this time and out popped a ceramic tree with a Chutney and Yoghurt Sorbet Lollipop. Meant to be a palate cleanser the sorbet really helped set the tone for the main course to come our way

As we had mentioned earlier the Farzi Café in Bengaluru has taken inspiration from the south, the main course dishes also followed this trend. We kicked things off with two varieties of Appams. A traditional fermented rice batter dish, the Farzi café version has Charcoal powder churned into it, which gives the appam a beautiful grey colour and a slight earthiness to the flavour. The Non Vegetarian version was served with the classic Mutton fry and the Vegetarian edition was served with a phenomenal water chestnut and asparagus curry which was just fantastic.
We love Maggi, and Maggi with Scallops, Prawns, Smoked Salmon and truckloads of Truffle oil stole our hearts! A befitting culmination to the savoury course!
And reappearing on the scene was the ceramic tree this time with a mind blowing Bailey’s Lollipop! Chocolate tempered to perfection stuffed with Bailey’s infused Ice Cream!
After this little delight we indulged in a delectable Rasmalai, layered with Carrot and cream the Rasmalai helped us close our evening in the most spectacular way!

Head to Farzi without even thinking about it but do remember to make a reservation!
