Dimcha Nehru Place can be your go to place for flavourful and lip smacking dimsums. The wide variety of dimsums are served in the traditional way and enjoyed in a wonderful ambience. The minimalistic interiors are tastefully done with wooden furniture and white lamps. It has a very laid back and relaxed vibe. The outer seating arrangement is perfect for a date and gives a pretty view of the place. Dimcha can be located easily as one comes a floor down from Nehru Place Metro Station into Epicuria, the fast emerging food hub. The place borrows from the Chinese concept of Yumcha which has food with various teas whereas Dimcha builds on the concept of dimsums with teas. The pretty crockery and well laid out tables win you over immediately.
The menu is not very extensive with small portions enough to keep the appetite going. The kitchen can be observed through the see through glass walls. The meals are served in bamboo baskets that reminds of the traditional Chinese restaurants.
We were greeted with Pickled Ginger and Kiwi coolers which were very refreshing and tangy. Soups consisted of Khao Suey and Baa Mee Tom. These are a must try for people who love spice in their broth. Out of these I liked the Baa Mee broth more consisting of veggies and noodles.
Then arrived the Red Turnip Cake. Turnips are usually avoided by many people but this is something irrestible. Almost melting in the mouth, it was crunchy and retained the little sweetness of the turnips. Topping was spicy being the exact opposite.
The Kenya Bean Dumpling looked great colored in green specifying that they were vegetarian but lacked in taste. Spicy Prawn Dumpling and Chicken in Hoisin Sauce were the non- vegetarian options.
Starters had Crispy Tofu Crushed Black pepper, French Bean in black bean and Steamed fish in banana leaf. The French Bean dish was crunchy with a sweet topping along with roasted peanuts. Steamed Fish was enjoyed well with the red chilli sauce provided in the cute little cola shaped bottles which otherwise tasted a little bland.
Raw papaya salad was the perfect combination of flavours. Colourful and flavourful with the earthiness of the raw papaya which goes well with both sweet and spicy flavours and crunchiness of the sautéed beans. Cherry tomatoes add tanginess and a sweet topping with roasted peanuts completes the salad. The chef also demonstrated how to make it. The toppings and roasted peanuts were repeated for most of the dishes but yielded unique flavours with each one.
The Raw Papaya Salad and Red Turnip Cake deserve appreciation and are a must try. For dessert we had the delicious Chocolate Cake Slice. The service was slow and can be improved.
Head over to the place if you want to try something different and take your taste buds through an explorative journey.
