We never thought that a collection of junk could lead to such a creative interior. We cannot even imagine how much effort must have gone into building this cafe because each and every inch is built with some junk material. The seating, walls, bar and every other part of the cafe is carefully fabricated keeping the theme in mind. The organisation of the pieces is a classic example of perfection. Another noticeable idea about the interior is the seating. The tables are arranged in such a way that every table has its own personal space, so there will be no hindrance to the privacy of the customers. There is also a raised platform for the music lovers to dance to the tunes of music played live by the DJ.
Coming to the food, Junkyard’s concentration is on the health element. The menu is carefully designed and you can even see the amount of nutrients and calories stuffed into the dish. The use of fresh herbs and nourishing ingredients will not leave you in guilt of gorging.
Drinks:
Junkyard has got some innovative cocktails to offer, wherein ingredients like kaffir lime, beetroot and fresh fruits play a major role. We tried floral salvage fluid in which there were mild notes of vodka with slight sharpness of ginger ale, topped with aroma of hibiscus in every sip.
Another innovative concoction that we tried was termed as Maroon Hat, which had strong notes of juicy beetroot balancing out the dryness of vodka. Hints of basil and vanilla flavour made it a refreshing and light cocktail best suited for a summer afternoon.
Mocktail lovers will find lot of mixtures of fresh juices and varied unique flavours. If you are reluctant in trying something new, go for virgin mojito which is a safe bet. Other options include Gardino, which is another energizing delight. The thick consistency of beetroot juice balanced by watermelon juice and celery with mint will give a positive boost to the health as well as taste buds. We especially loved the garnishing of this cocktail.
Starters:
One thing you can’t help noticing about Junkyard is that they prepare basic elements in a different way, and luckily, they succeed in the same. Onion rings had very thin skin of onion inside and the covering was topped with potato bhujia which made it crispy as well as flavourful. The desi touch was nice to have with cocktails. Smoked cheese balls are generally loaded with oil and cheese but because as it is Junkyard Cafe, you will find them less oily yet equally fulfilling. The smoothness of cheese exploded in the mouth in the very first bite.
Another amazing entry was made by falafel. Those who don’t opt for this Lebanese king because of its dry nature can safely have it here. It was not dry, and when combined with chilli flavoured sauce, it was absolute garlic mixed delight.
The cottage cheese fingers had a little sweetness and very thin layer of crispy covering. The dimsums and Bao menu is something not to be missed. Different kinds of fillings were so well prepared and presented, we are afraid you might lose your heart to them.
As soon as the Mezze platter was placed on the table, our eyes kept rolling to see what all have been presented. Hummus was of smooth consistency. Other servings included salads, Muhamarra and Baba Ghanoush which tasted pleasurably unusual. Even the way in which they prepare the Pita Breads is different.
Junkyard is surely going to be in our list of healthy eat-out options. It is a one stop solution for a healthy time out.
