I have always loved trying out new whiskies and I recently got to try out Dewar’s whisky and fell in love with a few of their labels. I tried out the whiskies at the Dewar’s Pop Up at Grappa, Shangri-La’s Eros New Delhi. Although you can read all about what you can find about Grappa here, it has also started storing some new beers from the United Kingdom. Here, Vita Vladimirski, an Israeli bartender and brand ambassador was mixing up some cocktails for us to try out. In this article, there is going to be a small video on how to make the cocktails and also the tasting notes for the individual whiskies.

Dewar’s Whisky 12 yr old “The Ancestor”

Just like most of Dewar’s offerings, the 12 year is a blend that has been made out of Aberfeldy, Craigellachie, Royal Brackla, The Deveron, Aultmore and other single malts. The whisky has quite a smoky note to it along with some citrusy flavours. But one of the reasons it can be an easy sipping whisky without the overwhelming hit of richness of flavours is that it is diluted to 40% ABV. You can either try it out neat (I wouldn’t recommend doing it with a splash of water unlike the other whiskies) and the Penicillin cocktail which you can check out in the video above.

Dewar’s Whisky 15 yr old “The Monarch”

The heart of all of Dewar’s whisky is the Aberfeldy 27 year old which finds its honeyed flavour expressed to the fullest in The Monarch. Built on a favours profile of sweet, spice and candied fruits, this whisky is best had in the form of an Old Fashioned that Vita makes. One of the reasons that this whisky has its flavours married so well is that the single malts are casked again after the blending, thus completing the Double Cask method.

This is one of the rare Scotch whiskies to have hints of a herby, grassy flavour to it amidst the rich expression of flavours.
