The lure of drinking tea is something that is truly rejuvenating. India runs on tea and there is no denying that fact. For a country whose daily workforce survives on tea breaks, it is pretty surprising to know how less Indians know about Tea. With Delhi and Mumbai waking upto wine dinners and Gurgaon and Bangalore being filled with a plethora of micro breweries, our simple old tea has been lost in the muddle. To rediscover our tea roots, I planned to decipher the beauty of Sri Lankan Ceylon tea.

Ceylon Tea

The beauty of Sri Lanka is entombed is it’s seven teas and we were lucky enough to try out their magic at a recent event organised by Ceylon Teas celebrated its 150 years of existence at the South Asian Gastronomy at Sri Lankan High Commission.

Nuwara Eliya

It is one of the rare teas that tastes best while cold. It is produced in the mountain ranges and this tea gives off lots of fragrance and a hint of subtle flavours.

Ceylon Tea

Udapussellawa

The tea that grows in the Udapussellawa mountains usually grows during the dry season. It has a lovely rosey taste with medium body and flavours which stick on your palate for a long time.

Dimbula

Although it grows at a much lesser altitude, this allows this famous tea to have a burst of flavours.

Ceylon Tea

Uva

The unique taste of this tea is something that sets it apart from all the other ones.

Kandy

The more closer you come to the plains, more robust are the flavours. This tea is preferably drunk with milk giving it a beautiful warm mouthful of flavours.

Ceylon Tea

Sabaragamuwa

It grows pretty much everywhere from the sea level upwards. The deep red colour is characteristic with a hit of robust flavours.

Ruhuna

This black tea is for those who like their flavours super robust.

With every cup of Ceylon Tea bursting with flavor and brimming with goodness, Ceylon Tea gives you an experience of a life time.
