Cafes You Shouldn’t Miss at Mall Road, Mussoorie

Mussoorie has always been one of the favourite getaway destinations for the people of North especially during the blistering summer months. To cater to the gluttonous taste buds of so many tourists as well as locals, Mussoorie’s mall road is hosting many cafes offering different cuisines. With amazing views of the hills and splendid weather all through the year, these food joints are a must visit when you are strolling on the celebrated mall road.

Mostly called as chic-choc by the visitors, this place has been talked about in daily newspapers as well as programmes like Highway on my plate. Popular amongst the visitors and students in boarding schools alike, chic-choc has a specialisation in home-made chocolates. You can blindly trust the quality of their thick and fulfilling shakes. Apart from that, pasta and fruit cream are what they are known for. Other items in the menu are salads, ice creams, slushes, pizza, burgers, sandwiches and more in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian form. Most notable part of this more than 60 year old café is the ambiance of this café which is all wooden, with frames of movie posters on the wall.

A trip to the hills is incomplete without indulgence in Chinese food. This is the place to dine in for some quick Chinese and Tibetan delight. Don’t forget to visit the place after the dark when it is beautifully lighted up with red lamps, giving it a completely different feel.  Spicy food in the cold weather will be a satisfying experience for your belly. The food is not completely authentic, but still pretty decent considering the availability and other constraints of the place.

One of the oldest cafes in Mussoorie, Madras café has been serving south Indian cuisine to its visitors. A filter coffee in the winter morning is an unbeatable experience, especially in this tiny café. Take a seat towards the window to see the scenic beauty of Mussoorie. More than the quality of food, it is the kind of food and the surroundings which enhances the experience.

If you are longing for typical naan-dal kind of stuff or if you are specific about eating at a vegetarian family restaurant, then Green vegetarian is the place to go for. Very reasonable in prices, this is for those who are looking for the North Indian delight. Exit this place and you will see a sweet shop on the left to complete your typical North Indian meal.

Located towards the Library Chowk near Axis bank, this café is a tiny place to tuck in. Having glass walls, this café serves various kinds of shakes, coffees and stuff like sandwiches. They have a shelf which has various kinds of honey and its products (soaps, moisturizers, honey-made chocolates) for sale. Having outlets in other cities as well, they make the desserts and shakes with honey instead of sugar. It will surely turn out to be an interesting visit.

This one is the new entry in the list of cafes in Mussoorie. Opened on 23 May, 2015, this café is going to be one of the favourites of visitors. People from cities are going to love the place because the menu offers continental food (which is most-demanded cuisine at present) and the ambiance is of typical European style. Located towards the picture palace, an extension of popular Tavern Restaurant, it is the property belonging to the owners of well-established chain of Brentwood Hotels and resorts. A little on the expensive side, this café is surely going to expand the boundaries of café culture in a place like Mussoorie.
