There has been a steady increase in Mediterranean food ever since Lebanese food started making inroads into the Indian market. But the true flavours of the Mediterranean were always missing out. So when a restaurant opens up that serves exactly that, we weren’t going to refuse. The Amuse House Restaurant at Ansal Plaza is serving out some decadent food from all over the Mediterranean region including Turkey and Egypt. The restaurant is an European style Bistro serving out food in a fun casual way.
What all we tried out at the Amuse House?
No Mediterranean meal can be complete without experiencing the flavours of Falafel. Served up on a plate of hummus, the flavours are classically earthy. Although the flavours around the Mediterranean are pretty similar, one dish that always stands apart is the Beetroot and Goat Cheese Salad. The mixture of sweetness from the Beetroot along with the salty Goat Cheese is a combination that I have always loved, the colours on the plate notwithstanding. That simple old dish has been converted into a modern masterpiece by incorporating different shades of the Beetroot: Beetroot Jam, Poached Beetroot and thinly sliced dehydrated ones. The white of the Goat Cheese looks magnificent in the sea of red while a burnt orange on the side added a tinge of acidity to the proceedings.
Now Chicken Liver Pate is one of my favourite dishes and is found quite rarely on the menus of Delhi restaurants. Finding it here was quite interesting the perfectly made Pate stole made my day quite a bit. Another dish that we highly recommend is Manchego Stuffed Chillies. Two large Peppers bereft of their seeds and heat have been filled with Cottage Cheese and Pine Nuts. The aroma of the chillies combined with the sweetness of the ingredients gives it a flavour that’s quite an explosion on the palate.
The dessert is probably one of the uniquely displayed ones. Instead of a platter, it is a box of sweets from the Mediterranean region. Oh! My love for deep fried dough dunked in syrup came alive again.
