So to spare anyone from shattering their virtual reputation, I present 15 internet slangs and a little insight on what they mean, to get you back on track (atleast for the first half of 2015):

Meaning – on point, perfect
When to be used – complimenting someone or something
Example – Your dress is on fleek, where’d you get it?
#2 – Bae
Meaning – your significant other
When to be used – when you want to show off your relationship
Example – I’m out chilling with my bae! *insert picture/status/snapchat
#3 – TBT
Meaning – throw back Thursday
When to be used – as a hashtag, while sharing an old picture, specifically on a Thursday
Example – My sister and I, a decade ago! *insert picture* #TBT
#4 – WCW
Meaning – woman crush Wednesday
When to be used – as a hashtag, while sharing a picture of a woman (usually a celebrity who doesn’t know you exist) you idolize or have a crush on
Example – Shakira is my #WCW! *insert picture*
#5 – Awks
Meaning– awkward
When to use – when you’re too lazy to type/ forgot how to spell
Example – My phone doesn’t have predictive text, haha, awks!
#6 – Jellie/jelly
Meaning– jealous
When to use – again, when you’re too lazy to type / forgot how to spell
Example – I had jelly for dessert, I bet you’re so jelly right now!
#7 – IRL
Meaning– in real life
When to use – when you realize there’s life beyond the internet
Example – IRL, I didn’t even smile when I said ROFL.
#8 – ASL
Meaning – age, sex, location
When to use – when chatting to strangers and you couldn’t care less to put up a decent conversation
Example – ASL? *didn’t like their answer, exits chat room*
#9 – Noob
Meaning – newbie
When to use – when letting people know the person in question should be spared/ragged
Example – He’s a noob; don’t bother explaining why you shouldn’t like your own picture!
#10 – Tbh
Meaning – to be honest
When to use – when you’re emphasizing how truthful your opinion is
Example – Tbh, I wouldn’t eat that even if I were paid to!
#11 – Smh
Meaning– shaking my head
When to use – when you’re pissed off by a situation/ synonymous to the face-palm
Example – My mom keeps uploading embarrassing old pictures of me, smh!
#12 – Turnt
Meaning – high
When to use – when something puts you in an exceptional mood
Example – This DJ got my turnt up in here!
#13 – Imo/imho
Meaning – in my (honest/humble) opinion
When to use – when you’re emphasizing that it’s just your opinion and you don’t want someone going crazy because they didn’t like what they read
Example – IMO, you shouldn’t even be on the internet at the age of 10!
#14 – I’m down
Meaning – interested to indulge in said activity
When to use – when you’re quite willing to do something
Example – A trip to Goa? I’m down for that!
#15 – Zomg
Meaning – a more intensified omg
When to use – when omg is clearly not slang enough
Example – ZOMG, those cupcakes look killer!
