Anglow Whiskey Bar is serving food from the British Raj period and we can’t keep calm. This place is a hidden gem in Khan Market and if you haven’t been here already, you need to give it a shot! Its the only standalone in Delhi serving Anglo-Indian food which is the food delicious result of the British Raj in India. Indian Khansamas (cooks) took aspects of British cuisine and amalgamated them with Indian methods of cooking. They added Indian spices and ingredients to create Anglo-Indian Cuisine!

There are soups tempered with cumin and red chilies, roasts cooked in whole spices like cloves, pepper and cinnamon, rissoles and croquettes flavored with turmeric and garam masala… Over the years, Anglo-Indian cooking has become more Indian than British.

The starters at Anglow

In starters I ate the coastal cottage cheese, chip & dip, Spinach and cheese tomato, cherry mozzarella- basil tomato toast. All the starters are their best selling starters and one can easily taste why!!

My favorite was definitely the spinach & cheese tomato. The spinach and cheese were wrapped in a filo pastry and deep fried to an absolute perfection. It was a mix between a puff pastry and samosa. My most favorite part was the tangy fresh tomato salsa sauce. The flakiness of the puff pastry with the tanginess of the sauce was such a beautiful play on textures.

A special mention to their chip and dip. The dip is so fresh and creamy, one can’t stop themselves from digging in. The chip is also not the regular French fries but their own take on fried potato.

Cheese Platter

Wine and cheese is always such a beautiful palate cleanser between mains and starters.

As a palate cleanser between the starters and the mains, I decided to order the cheese platter and I can easily say it was divine. Each and every cheese was very sourced and it paired beautifully with my glass of wine.

The Mains at Anglow

In the mains, I ordered Vegetable phish pash, the railway curry with Yorkshire pudding and ratatouille. Each and every main was quite unique in taste and had a beautiful play on textures.

The ratatouille was a red sauce macaroni based dish and it was healthy and light. Anglo-indian cuisine was that is inspired from the British food so it wasn’t too oily or loaded with carbs which I absolutely loved. Beautiful balance between veggies and carbs mixed with spiciness that we Indians love. So best of both the Worlds!

Healthy food can taste good too!

Vegetable phish pash is a mix between Indian khichdi and European risotto, so the taste in itself is quite unique. The rice was cooked so well that the flavors had sunk deep in each grain of rice. I absolutely enjoyed the play on flavors and textures.

Railway Cottage Cheese Curry is a vegetarian version of Railway Mutton Curry which was inspired by the Bengali dish Kosha in the British Raj period. You may find the taste similar to a Shahi Paneer but what made it different was the Yorkshire pudding. I was having a Yorkshire pudding with a gravy for the first time and was enjoying my puff pastry with the smooth tomato gravy. On insistence of the server, I even ordered a malabar paratha and I am glad that I did. The malabar paratha went so well with the cottage cheese gravy. Absolutely loved it!

I was so full, I just could not think about desserts. I definitely intend on going back again and trying the dishes which are left on the menu, including the desserts (:p).
