Located in the IIT market, “What a comic show” recently hosted a Dumpling fest.

With more than 15 different variants to choose from, the dumpling fest started at the right note.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DUMPLING, MOMO, WONTON AND DIMSUM

So I often see people confuse between dumplings, momos, wontons and dimsums, let me take this opportunity here to differentiate the variants.

DUMPLING is a broad classification for a dish that consists of small pieces of dough (made from a variety of starch sources), often wrapped around a filling (as in a ravioli). The dough can be made from bread, flour, or potatoes, and may be filled with fish, meat, sweets, or vegetables.

For example gnocchi from Italy, pierogies from Poland, empanadas from South America, pithe from India and gyoza from Japan.

MOMO is a type of dumpling, native to Nepal, Tibet and neighbouring regions.

DIM SUM refers to a number of steamed and stuffed dumplings indigenous to the Cantonese cuisine and they have different subcategories too- like har gow, jiaozi, siu mai etc. They are popularly served with tea in a tradition called Yum Cha.

WONTONS are another type of dumpling that are far more common in Southern China. They usually have a small amount of filling wrapped in a very large thin and delicate wrapper that overhangs off your spoon. They are invariably served boiled in a soup.

So basically Dumplings is a category of food and momos, dimsums, wontons etc are a type of dumpling.

ABOUT THE MENU AND MY REVIEW ON THE DUMPLING FEST

We were served a variety of momos, dimsums and shabalay in the fest. Being a vegetarian, I could only try a few, though for non-vegetarians there were more than 12 different variants to choose from.

I quiet enjoyed the veg dimsum and the shabalay. Shabalay is a type of fried momo and quiet popular in the Tibetan and Bhutanese cuisine. It was raining the day I went to review the place, so the fried Shabalay with the spicy sauce was the perfect meal for the day.

I went with my brother to review the place and he could not stop raving about the steamed whole chicken dumplings in the fish style.

ABOUT THE PLACE- WHAT A COMIC SHOW

Being a big superheros and comic book fan, I absolutely loved the interiors of the place. It had different types of masks, superhero toys, comic books and other merchandise with which you could pose/chill with.

I was informed that the theme and the setup of the place changes after few months. For eg. Currently its comic book inspired, so you’ll see a lot of comic books on display. What I absolutely loved about the place was the different nights that they offered. For eg:- they have Superhero theme night party, Movie Nights (watch a movie with your friends and family in lounge), live band nights etc.

I HAVE TO HAVE TO comment about the menu. Absolutely loved the quirkiness!!! It is fun to see how the theme is so well taken forward in the menu.
