LONG READ (FOR READING AT LEISURE)

Shiv Karan Singh is known for introducing acclaimed restaurant like “Smokey’s BBQ and Grill”. Smokey’s has received an overwhelming response from it’s patron and is cruising high with two outlets in Khan Market and DLF Cyber Hub. His latest brainchild is surely an another feather in his cap. Nestled in the ever buzzing South Extension, a place where I felt we needed a restaurant to break bread with our loved ones. As we enter the place a sense of nostalgia strikes back, remembering the elements related to our childhood visit to a circus. Greeted by an enthusiastic staff wearing polka dotted and star motif shirts, left us spellbound. The chic and playful interiors set in the good vibes at this multi-level restaurant and bar. The place offers several seating options which include the main dining area with wooden style high tables and more relaxed lounge seating. Looking up into the high glass ceiling are incredibly constructed circle lights that subtly bring in the circus theme. The place also boasts a stunning Al Fresco terrace area. The 360 degree roof top is a nice addition too.

Food Talks

Mr. Raminder Bakshi, Culinary Advisor and Business Consultant, is one of the forces behind the lip smacking meal that is being churned out by Circus. Just like a circus travel to different places to perform, so does the menu of circus present to you the flavours from different parts of the world. The dishes draws the inspiration from the global street food. From Bar Nibbles, Burgers, Hotdogs, Pizza, Sandwiches, Kathi Rolls, Dhaba Style Chinese food, Street Style Momos to Tiffin meals and comfort food from the west are all to be found on this super extensive menu. The bar menu is as big as the food menu, their team of mixologists has come up with some great concoctions which includes a wide array classic and signature cocktails.image

We started off with Andhra Style Tenderloin Chilli Hot Dog( INR 425) strips of tenderloin are marinated to perfection in the Andhra chillies and is sauteed with paprika and onions. It is flavourful and a delight to the taste buds. Po Boy Sandwich (INR 310) this had an interesting story behind it which is related to street car operators and when they were on a strike to feed them this sandwich was a vital player and hence got the name “Po Boy Sandwich”. It is a casual sandwich with a juicy meat filling and kick of spices that makes you go for more. It is served with fries and salad. Moving further we tried the Chilli Paneer (INR 295) paneer chunks are fried to perfection and sauteed with capsicum. To wash down the above mentioned we opted for some of their signature cocktails such as the Masala Gang (Rs 300) with flavours like ramladdu, aampanna, imli, anardaana and kala khatta with a dose of vodka. The potent but wonderful mixes took us straight back to school, along with the adult addition of vodka, making it instant favourites. The Jugalbandi further continues with Andhra chicken curry (INR 445) which is served in a humble tiffin box. Yes, like the one we saw in the movie “The Lunchbox”. End your meal on a sweet note with their aate ka halwa which has an earthy flavour or go for all-time favourites such as the Chocolate caramel turtle sundae.image

In a nutshell, finally we  have a place that serves old memories in a new style and is the kind of place that our city needed. It has a brilliant concept and the best part being the audience able to relate to it. We have an abundance of  places in Delhi to promote food and nightlife but something out of box was the need of the hour and Circus rightfully claims to be different.
