‘Sattvika’ is a Sanskrit word which means ‘pure’. Located in the hub of Delhi’s one of the most popular shopping destination, i.e. Select Citywalk, the place is always bustling with people. It is one of the very few restaurants in Delhi serving purely vegetarian food. This Navratra, they brought out their very own Navratra Thali with a carefully thought out menu. Offering a different variety every three days during the duration of the Navratras, they ensured that the ‘vrat ka khana’ need not be boring and the same every day. The interiors are tastefully done in beige with wooden seating. The left wall is lined with small LEDs displaying the ‘mantras’. Thus the customers can enjoy their food along with the soothing chants. The ambience is truly ‘pure’. Also, the fast and quick service is quite commendable.
The Navratra Thali has a very different and unique preparation. Contrary to what I expected, the food did not have any trace of oil in it. Navratra food prepared in the traditional households is quite oily. The sumptuous delicacies were served in a silver platter and resembled the thalis of the kings. The quantity is adequate for two servings. The menu was elaborate with over 15 items comprising of starters, main course and desserts. Accompanying it was a choice of Mango Lassi and Masaledaar Chaach. Starting with the Saboodana Papad, every item on the thali was delightful. Others were Kuttu ki Papdi Chaat, Bhune fruit ki Chaat, Lauki aur Anar ka Raita, Paneer Malai Tikka topped with pudine ki Chutney and Kache Kele ke Kebab. In the main course were Malai Kofta, Masala Arbi, Dahi wale Raseele Aloo, Samak ke Chawal and Kuttu aur Singra ki Puri. The Malai Kofta and Samak ki Kheer needs a special mention and is a must try. The Gud Makhana ended the meal on a sweet note.
Navratri celebrates the nine forms of Goddess Durga and Sattvik Restaurant celebrates the special food served during this time with its Navratra Thali. It is a time of joyous celebrations so why should the food be dull. Everyone must try the special 5 course Navratra meal at least once.
