The Journey from Blog to Book: A story about the lady who inspires us all Yashodhara Lal and the collective Indibloggers who came together to write an anthology of 10 short love stories.
The setting is simple, unfussed as a few of us wait for the event to begin, a newly revamped Costa Coffee in South Extension Part 2 provides a warm and comfortable setting for a book launch and a storytelling session with bloggers for various parts of the city.
Choosing to launch a book in a coffee shop makes a great change, it makes the entire world of publishing much more attainable and approachable.
Gathered together to celebrate Yashodhara Lal’s third book ‘There’s Something About You’ and an Indiblogger Selective book called, ’10 Love stories’ which has a foreword by Yashodhara Lal.
What really brought people out in such large numbers for this event is the hope that it ignites in the blogging community that one of the trailblazers in our world is now a bestselling author.
Yashodhara Lal’s new book ‘There’s Something About You’ is a light hearted, humorous take on unusual love. The story is about Trish the protagonist an overweight 28 year old lady who doesn’t believe she needs love, but right when that belief gets stronger, in comes the man of her dreams Sahil 35, strong, almost like a super hero, guitar playing hunk. And she still refuses him, but who can deny sparks? Read the book for more details.
Yashodhara, is a trendsetting blogger who runs a blog called Y ON EARTH NOT, she has 3 adorable children, a daughter and two little twin boys. Ms. Lal believes that it is the work of stalwarts like Gerald Durrell, James Herriot and Bill Bryson, who wrote humorous slice of life stories.
When asked what was it that pushed her to make the leap from blogging to publishing she says it was the near death experience of having her twins that made her realize how short life really is, and how important it was for her to accomplish her one dream to be a published author.
Yahsodhara is a self-confessed funny bones. She has always wished to make her writing light, simple, relatable yet bitingly funny. Ove the course of the event it becomes visible that yashodhara is funny and amusing in real life as well as in her writing.
Through the question answer sessions most bloggers asked about the journey she undertook to publish herself and the process behind it, Yash at all times tells all the people that the true story lies within them and perseverance is the key to writing. She advises young authors that building a routine of sitting on a desk, picking up a pen and a notebook every day is the only way to overcome the so called writer’s blocks.
As you read this it is not anyone else except for the ‘little voice’ in your head that is reading it for you. Yashodhara believes that it is this voice that is our biggest critic, and to stop listening to it is the first step we have to take. Writing a book is a long and arduous process, one can never lose heart and to be presumptuous about ones own self is the biggest problem!
Through the event many people shared their own love stories and the tinge of romance and nostalgia in the air was palpable, it was at this point that they chose to launch the Indiblogger collective book of 10 short love stories. Written and curated by the community the book went to print with Harper Collins and Harlequinn. This book is a culmination of the dreams of many different people who took this platform to launch themselves into the universe of publishing.
The book is a labour of love and shows to us a great array that love can mean to different people.
While we all got an opportunity to speak to the authors, take pictures and get our books autographed. The evening was made for those who love their books, their words and are looking to make their dreams come true!
