Indian food – spicy, tantalizing, and simply delicious, but for the weight watchers out there, the scale doesn’t tip in their favour, or does it? Not all Indian foods are bad, in fact, you may be missing out on killer nutrition benefits by skimping out on those organic food sources.

From the royal mung dal to the humble brown rice, we’ll be covering essential low carb Indian food and a high fiber diet that kickstarts your metabolism, burn fat like a tractor, and keep you in great shape! Whether you’re an athlete, overweight, or just want to eat healthier, this is a great starting point.

Here are five Indian foods that are low in carbs and great for a healthy diet.

Brown Rice

Your go-to source for complex carbohydrates, brown rice takes longer to digest, has plenty of fibre, is low in calories and leaves you feeling fuller longer. The best part? It’s jam-packed with essential vitamins and minerals, unlike white rice. White rice strips off essential nutrients and delivers only iron, but with brown rice, however, it’s a different story.

Indian Food

Almonds

Power-packed with protein, almonds are your go-to source for midtime snacking and lead to lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels. They aid in weight loss, reduce hunger, and even lower your blood pressure. Put simply, almonds deliver a massive amount of nutrients, are loaded with antioxidants and boast of an impressive nutrition profile. Lip-smacking and delicious, you can eat soaked almonds in the morning or turn them into nut butter for spreads over sandwiches.

You can even eat almonds by blending them with smoothies, eating them raw, dry roasting them, or even by adding them to salads for a nutritious spin!

Indian Food

Eggs

High in protein and low in carbs, eggs deliver your dose of energy and keep your insulin levels regulated. Plus, they satiate your hunger and leave you feeling fuller, thus eliminating cravings and providing a health boost at the end of the day.

Indian Food

Mung Beans

Mung Dal is a plant-derived food that’s low in carbs and high in protein. Mung beans are an excellent source of protein and fibre, supplying essential amino acids and vitamins to the body. These beans are beneficial in lowering LDL “bad” cholesterol oxidation, reverses damages done to blood vessels, and reduces inflammation. Besides boosting immunity, mung beans fight against infections and viruses, reduces food intake, and promote weights loss. Mung beans are eaten raw, with salads, and are used for making wholesome servings of Mung Dal too!

Indian Food

Non-Fat Greek Yogurt

A wholesome ending to every meal, non-fat Greek yoghurt improves bone density and leads to lowered blood pressure level. It is high in carbs, low in protein. Check the label when opting for non-fat Greek yoghurt and make sure it’s free from artificial flavours, sweeteners, and saturated fats. You can throw in a little fruit or honey for a delicious serving of non-fat Greek yoghurt for those days when you’re simply beat.

Indian Food

Conclusion

Often listed amongst the best beaches in the world, Anse Lazio in Praslin, Seychelles truly open gates to altogether new world. And let me tell you, reaching here was quite a journey. One has to reach the bottom of the hill to Zimbabwe either by car or bus, then one has to trek over a large forested jungle clad hill and along some way before you reach the beach. But the journey is well worth the effort with views that take your breath away perfect with fine white sands and gorgeous turquoise waters that are so clear you can watch the fish swim around you, it's no surprise Anse Lazio is frequently called 'the best beach in the world'.

When traveling, definitely discover a Beverage destination. We headed to the @Takamaka Rum Seychelles distillery with @Creole Travel Services where we fell in love with the slow pace, exquisite beach and two barrel aged rums. The Extra Dark is aged twice, first in French Oak and then in reused Bourbon casks for three years and the St. Andre which has been aged for eight years in American Bourbon casks. Which one should we get back for tasting?
