Australia is one of my favorite destinations to vacation in. With a plethora of outdoor activities possible all over Australia, I am penning down a few that you should definitely try out.
Road tripping in NSW
All of Australia is gorgeous, but the NSW coastline is particularly famous for its stunning ocean scenery. Perfectly located between Victoria and Queensland, heading north or south will provide options such as Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Byron Bay, all with waterfront accommodation and dining options.Inland is the Blue Mountain and country music capital of Australia, Tamworth. You might consider looking at minibus hire from Sydney in order to move you and your crew around in style and comfort, especially if you have a bit of luggage to carry also.
Wineries in South Australia
Australian wine is world class and some of the nation’s most renowned estates are found around South Australia. The Barossa Valley is the largest with over 80 cellar doors to choose from, followed closely by McLaren Vale. The Clare Valley is only 90 minutes from the capital, Adelaide, and is a must for white wine fans, especially Riesling lovers. You probably know that summer in Australia can get hot and South Australia can host some scorchers despite its southerly location, so be prepared to (at least try) to avoid hangovers by staying well hydrated and finding shade where you can. Whether you move through many cellar doors or base yourself at one location for a long lunch, the choice is yours.
Entertainment in Melbourne
Melbourne really shines when it comes to arts and culture. So whether you head to free exhibitions at the National Gallery or check out the centre for the moving image ACMI or head a bit out of the CBD to the Heide Gallery there will be many options for fine art lovers. Major theatres will offer shows from large-scale musicals and dramas to stand-up comedy and live music at one of the hundreds of bars. For something, more hands on you might check out some of the theme parks in Melbourne or catch a free Tai Chi class at Federation Square normally held on Tuesday mornings. Many Melbournians will also argue that sport is an art and summer is the season for the Ashes. Go to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, there are grass, seats and beer. You might even see some cricket. The Australia Open closely follows, all you’ll need to do is head to Melbourne Park, a mere walkway across from the MCG.
Brisbane
Being a river city, Brisbane has got #riverlifedown to a tee, helped along by its warm and often humid climate. The inner part of the city has South Bank complete with bars, restaurants, parks and a manmade lagoon you can swim in. Along the western end, you’ll find an abundance of weekend markets as well as gastropubs and live music venues for nightlife, including several upmarket cocktail bars. The New Farm area along the river is home to the sensationally converted art space, the Powerhouse, previously an old power station. You’ll find comedy, music, ballet and theatre of all sorts. Bonus points for the open air cinema that runs in summer.
